Will WiLD ever get a stronger, single signal???

What is the likelihood WiLD will be able to increase the power of 105.7 or find a stronger, single signal?? Switching to 96.1 is probably out of the question (is Project 961 popular??)... so what options do they have to increase their reach and get rid of the static in the city?

Hmm, KLS and Bull are both doing reasonably well as of the latest book, so swapping with one of those is out of the question definitely...

105.7 won't up their power. Sister 105.3 is in the way, for starters, as is 106.1. The last couple of facility moves entailed 105.7 moving closer to town but reducing power.

105.7 had a stronger signal before 2003 or 2004, when it was 16.5 kW at 252 m HAAT. I could hear it without an antenna attached to my radio. After the mod to 20 kW at 227 m, it was weaker and had some issues on Peachtree canyon. The extra power doesn't make much difference indoors, but the lost HAAT makes a big difference to the east, south and around the skyline. I would go back 16.5 kW at 252 m.

Can they go back though? Or like jabba17 said... is 105.3 and 106.1 in the way??

Not really. Giving up 96.1's revenue for 20 years would be cheaper! 96.7 was an old "local" FM channel populated by 3 KW / 300 ft (later 6KW) (Class A) as was 92.1/93.5/94.3/95.3/102.3 etc. There were a several more I just can't remember all of them off the top of my head. These were the FM version of 1230/ 1240/ 1340/ 1400/ 1450/ 1490 AMs. The original intent of these channel was for small towns especially ones that did not have a 24 hour AM. Then the FCC allowed these channels to "powered up" but very few stations on these frequencies could because there were so many stations on that frequency. 96.7 might be able to be improved but not by much on this frequency:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bi...mat=&dx=3&radius=200&freq=96.7&sort=freq&sid=

WMXA in AL. could be moved and Franklin NC is moving but then there is the issue of 96.1's third channel "protection" and 97.1 a full class C only 2 channels away. IIRC there are plans to "move" a downgraded 97.1 into Atlanta. If this is ever approved, then 96.7 having a better signal north of the Brookwood split is most likley doomed.

BTW: some class A's do very well signal wise in areas of the country where the FCC has limited the other channels to the Class B (50 KW @ 500 ft.) and it is flat. There are a couple of class A operations in Ohio and Indiana that produce good ratings and $$$. Off the top of my head WCKX & WBRW both in the Columbus OH market are examples class A's doing OK against class B's.

So are there any other options???

I religiously play the lottery, win it, then purchase one of the best Atl Radio signals and "give" it to WiLD (along with an additional 5 other signals out of spite)

or:

I suddenly decide to become President and get in at the last minute with limited Presidential history (if Obama can do it as an African American, so can I!!) then get into office and focus my undivided attention towards passing a bill REQUIRING WWVA-FM to get Atl's BEST signal!

I mean... I really don't know what else I could think of anymore without going more extreme than that.. Hopefully SOMETHING happens, even if it's completely unexpected or hard to comprehend.

None.

Clear Channel (Wild's owner) will not hesitate to "kill" a station if it thinks it will make more money. WPCH "Peach / Lite" at 94.9 amd 96 Rock at 96.1 were flipped in the hopes of increased profit. WGST was "gutted" too. I can only guess Wild's audience's demographics (income) will not attract more advertisers if it was on a market covering signal than what CC is doing now with 94.9 and 96.1. If someone at CC felt they could sell more advertising with Wild on a 96.1 or 94.9: it would have already have happened.

Yeah, the only flip to Rhythmic-leaning CHR that would make sense would be 100.5, and there's no way Cumulus is gonna let that happen (either by flipping it or by selling it)

I guess there's a remote chance that CBS could flip Dave, but I think that would have to be after years of low ratings (not just a weak half-year) - it was only six months ago that Dave was a money-making monster, so I seriously doubt CBS would completely jump ship on it at this point

CBS Radio Atlanta would intentionally stay away from Rhythmic-leaning CHR because WVEE tends to spin crossover tracks every so often. The current setup of the 3 station CBS Radio group here is to allow each station to focus on its segment and not cannibalize one another.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not convinced that this is true. Over time, I've noticed there are always about 1 or 2 people in this section who always say "if they felt / thought / believed...etc.... ... it would've already happened."

Yet, in pretty much every section of this board I've been to in the past, I've seen so many suggestions dropped about things that SHOULD happen in certain markets / situations, and sometimes those suggested things would eventually & coincidentally unfold exactly how it was suggested after a bunch of other "trial & error" format and signal tests were tried, then it would become successful, and you'd see the people who suggested it saying "what took them so long?!?"

I also remember back when it was a "sin" to present the idea of B98.5 modernizing their format, all  because everyone thought "if they felt it could work, then they would've done it already." Well, it actually ended up happening later. I mean, am I supposed to believe that B98.5 could've never successfully tweaked and updated themselves any other time in this world except for around mid 2011? If it happened in November 2010, would it have automatically become a failure?

And how long did it take for Star 94 to finally just go straight Hot AC? Even I felt that that could've been done WAAAAY before it happened (along with many others here) and yet, it still took quite a while before someone who "felt it could be done" to make it "already happen."

In life, I've noticed that many people typically think about, discover, and act on possibilities rather later than sooner. Unless an idea is just completely outrageous and absurd, I have my doubts whenever I hear or see "if someone felt something could've been done, it would've already happened" in any circumstance.

WELL......

CHANGE OF PLANS!

It looks like the plans for me moving to Atlanta aren't happening anymore (at least in the near future), SO.. I'm no longer too concerned with what happens on Atlanta radio since it's not much of my business anymore. I am going to be going to school and studying IN Phoenix (maybe psychology, aviation, and music), my father will remain serving ambassador to London, and I guess his house in Atlanta will just remain vacant until his diplomatic term is up!

So, with that being said,

GOOD LUCK, GUYS!
Good Luck, WWVA

I must admit I'm somewhat happy, but at the same time somewhat disappointed. However, over all, looks like 2012 will be a POSITIVE year for me, for a variety of reasons.

As of right now, technically none of the things I've discussed and worried about within this section have anything to do with me anymore, and being that I already have enough things to worry about in life, I'm glad I can scratch the success of Atlanta CHR / rhythmic radio off my list of things that occupy my mind!

Radio is still my passion and may always be, but.... I'm going to focus my mind on other things right now while I "let all the radio presets play in the background."

Best wishes to everyone and whatever happens to WWVA-FM.
It's not like Phoenix radio as a whole is currently any better than Atlanta's dial line up, but.. I'll live.

Enjoy yourselves and stay positive.
;)

...being that I already have enough things to worry about in life...
It has been said, "If you have time to worry, you have time to meditate." So, keep thinking on the positive things, KDM, and best wishes to you. ;)

Anyone else notice that they have tightened up WILD's playlist lately??? I'm not sure I like it.

Also surprised they play the remix version of Selena Gomez - Love You Like A Love Song but do not play the remix of Adele - Someone Like You... kind of strange.
