Will WJRR ORLANDO Change Its Format?

New Ownership..... what does that mean to Wjrr... its on the list!

This is the final list of stations that Clear Channel can't keep because they put their local clusters over the current FCC local-market limits - which the new private Clear Channel must adhere to because of the ownership change. The Aloha Station Trust is run by Jeanette Tully, who's retained the brokerage firm of Media Venture Partners to find buyers or swap partners for these stations, listed alphabetically by market: In Albuquerque, KTEG, KABQ. In Augusta GA, WIBL. Austin: KFMK. Bakersfield: KDFO. Battle Creek: WBFN. Bismarck/Minot: KRRZ. Charleston SC: WALC. Cleveland: WAKS. Columbus GA: WBFA, WSHE. Dayton: WDKF, WDSJ. Eau Claire: WISM. Florida Keys: WKEY, WKEZ. “Fort Pierce Area”: WCZR, WSYR-FM, WOLL, WQOL. Frederick MD: WFMD, WFRE. Fresno: KFSO-FM. Grand Rapids: WMAX-FM. Hartford: WURH. Huntington-Ashland: WBKS, WIRO, WZZW. Jacksonville: WROO. Lancaster CA: KAVL, KTPI-FM. Laurel-Hattiesburg: WHER. Lexington-Fayette: WMKJ. Lima OH: WBUK. Little Rock: KHKN. Louisville: WKRD. Macon: WEBL. Nassau-Suffolk: WALK-AM/FM. New Orleans: KYRK. Orlando: WJRR. Panama City: WPBH. Portsmouth-Dover NH: WGIP. Roanoke-Lynchburg: WZBL, WSNZ, WSNV. Salisbury-Ocean City: WDKZ, WLBW. San Jose: KSJO, KCNL, KUFX. Sussex NJ: WHCY, WTOC. Syracuse: WWDG. And Waco: KBRQ.

Between that and the possibility of CBS selling off the Orlando stations (while Cumulus salavates towards Orlando and Tampa) , you have the possibility of a number of possibilities, depending on who actually ends up with the stations.

Not sure why this would really impact Tampa, but I'll speculate that if any change occurs... WTKS would retain whatever "talent" (ha, sorry but I had to use a word..) ... and retool itself in a Rock direction *if any change were expected to take place with WJRR* and lose the FM talk format that has been declining. This would be to keep a rock format station on the air they could sell, if they even see the need for a rock outlet by that time. (Rock has been declining in other's opinions for years, even though I particularly enjoy Rock over other formats by preference.)

I highly doubt WJRR would change direction, seeing as there is no Active or Current rock outlet in Orlando or in an adjacent market to Orlando that caters to the target demo, aside from that Pirate station that won't ever make it far enough over to Orlando to make any success out of not having a Rock station here. I would only expect a WJRR / WTKS retooling if someone at either end were to make the "first move" in such a direction... You'd have throw heritage out the window, and be willing to try something new -- just as a result of simply an ownership change.... Not quite sure either party will be inclined to do that.

Otherwise, I say it'll just be same business as usual. "WJRR Cocoa Beach / Orlando ... a 123XYZ communications station..."

Just my two & 1/2 cents..

Curious how you think Cumulus could enter Tampa?

Well I feel they will keep it as Rock and change the call letters. There would be no new rock music for orlando if they drop it.....and if they do.. probably another station will format change to make up for it and hopefully do it better than wjrr. Jrr wasnt a bad station, at least they had a couple shows. Question is.. how long will this take??

They could if CBS sold Tampa (especially as many high up in Cumulus Corporate Structure spent many years in Tampabay and many still have second homes here) but despite what some CBS insiders have stated, Tampa and Orlando DO NOT appear to be on the block.
