Will WPTF Movev To FM Someday?

They should put WPTF on crappy 96.1! That would really Help WPTF out.

Well considering how well Radio 96.1 is doing in the ratings, I don't foresee WPTF going to 96.1. I say if any Curtis AM is moving to FM (not that any of them will as long as Don is alive) I would put my money on Funny 570 moving to the Pulse signals and the Pulse move to 102.9.

WPTF's problem is the programming. It could be a winner, but it's not going to be in its current form. I don't think they expect anyone under 65 to listen.

A few weeks ago I was in the Triangle on a Friday afternoon stuck in traffic. Turned to PTF, and yes, they had traffic every 10 minutes... and also an interview with some old woman from Wilson. And Rufus Edmisten telling me what he plants in his garden.

Also, did you know that (OMG!) they now offer a news hour each Saturday at 7AM? Don't want to miss that!!! I know WRAL is doing news on the TV at that time, but screw that, I'm turning on good 'ol AM RADIO!

maybe the '65' demographic is actually spending money and buying things?
for their grandchildren? for their church? i mean, money is money.
the 24-35 isn't spending.

The standard perception is 65+ doesn't spend. With most people that age I know the exact opposite is true..Air conditioners, cars, storage, home improvement, computers. That demo has more disposible income & spends much more the radio research would have you believe. Therefore it is usually a very underserved demo in radio..Has been for a long time.

The older demos are becoming more and more important to advertisers (or should). As baby boomers retire. the demo grows dramatically and many have planned well for their retirement. While they are not likely targets for beer and soft drinks, they are certainly a valid target for cars, boats, RVs, travel, second homes, furniture, and electronics. Smart businesses will target them!

With Arbitron's changes and fewer stations subscribing, the ratings are way less relevant. Radio sellers need to lean how to sell radio!!!

I didn't know this until it was pointed out to me recently on here, but Curtis sold 102.9 to McClatchey Broadcasting who now operates it. I would've sold 102.3 instead, but what do I know...

carolinaradio, you are obviously the last to know that McClatchey is Don Curtis's son in law. No purchase made, it's kind of a nepotisic LMA... No harm, no foul.
