Will WQXR Be Sold?

NY Times Co. has sold all of its tv stations and its AM station this week....any chance they will sell WQXR?

The Times management has specifically said they will not sell the FM.

Several FM's that flipped away from classical to a more "popular" format have had tough sledding (95.7 in Philadelphia; 105.1 in Detroit; 96.5 in Kansas City; 92.1 in Houston) Any buyer of a full-power FM in NYC would have to pay MEGA MEGA bucks and could still get low ratings that probably would stifle revenue well below that rate of return the buyer could get in the bank.

AM 1560 sold

ABC LMA'ed WQEW for the Radio Disney format beginning 12/28/1998. That LMA has expired and ABC exercised an option to purchase the station outright.

With the purchase AM 1560 will stay Radio Disney even after WABC and WPLJ go to Citadel. AM 1560 also will continue to pick up spillover PxP for some of the teams heard on 1050 ESPN.

None of the Disney or ESPN stations owned buy Disney have been sold:; all will stay in format with the brands they promote.

Could Disney after the sale to Citadel then be able to get back into station ownership on a greater level? Or is there a _____ number of years that a non-compete will be in effect? And if so how long?

Disney does not want to be in radio. Why would they have sold a well established group, if not to cash in on a non-core holding?

They don't consider Radio Disney and ESPN radio to be radio stations per se, but, rather, brand extensions of core products.

Yeah, but why own a single station in Pittsburgh??? That is the only market left, AFAIK, where they LMA the Radio Disney affil.

Not to Citadel, but a few of them could be for sale individually. At somewhat ridiculous prices, but nevertheless.
