Will WTWO throw in the towel?

WTHI-TV claims it has nine times more viewers than the 11pm newscast on WTWO.

It appears WTWO has laid off nearly all of its general assignment reporters (according to their website).  Can anyone confirm this?  Would Nexstar dump one of the few news sources still in Terre Haute?

(Has 98.5 got a local news department yet?)

As of now 98.5 only has Steve Hall reading news from the Trib-Star, and I'm guessing some dated material from WTWO. Steve does well with what he has but I can't see Midwest spending any money on a local news team.

As dumb as this may sound, I've always wondered if WTWO's studio location has hurt them. I mean they do an accurate job, sometimes more accurate than WTHI. They do a lot of community events, and do a lot of remote broadcasts at festivals. Jesse Walker is clearly the best weather guy in the market. Jason Pensky is clearly the best Sports guy. Their evening anchor team is pretty good. They are pretty strong on the weekend newscasts. The only talent I can't stand to watch is the morning weather gal, she doesn't seem to know much about weather, where 10 has their best weather guy in the morning, Dave Wire.

Maybe NBC's programming is to blame? Who knows, maybe in the fall with Leno as a lead-in each night things will do better.

As far as 98.5, I've been disappointed with their local news. But I don't want to complain too much, it's just nice to have the big talkers back on in Terre Haute, especially on FM. The local weather has been ok, with Jesse Walker, and I did hear some live breaks (not from Jesse) during the storms on Friday night.

HI-99 not only told you about the weather warnings but they were live and could tell you where the heavest storms are. Unlike most of the others except the river. And by the way don't you just hate voice-trackers who say, "It's just after 3:00 o'clock", and when you look at the clock it's 10 to 15 mins after. Stop it please!

I only listened to WIBQ for an hour or so, while I was working on a project in the basement. I also watched a bit of the TV-10 Coverage. I live in Sullivan, so thankfully the worst of it was further North and a bit south of me. My oldest daughter said they were talking about some Tornado Warnings on 100.7.

As far as the voice trackers are concerned, I assume you are talking about 102.7? Maybe 95.9?

There's only one thing worse & that's the satellite jock saying it's 12 past the hour.

NBC programming does the station, nor many other affiliates no favors, especially as a late night lead-in.

Work has been done to the 10pm newscast on 'sister' station (Mission owned) WFXW, which WTWO produces. Fox 38 has a new seperate news anchor, news set, graphics, music, and generally faster pace than the WTWO newscasts. The Fox network is higher rated in primetime, so they're playing off that, and of course the earlier 10pm start time.

All the Fox stations that run late news begin at 10pm.

Hi 99 is always on storm coverage and do a great job at it. Not sure what The River was doing the other night but scanning the dial for updates, I did catch 100.7 doing live coverage...WIBQ was breaking into Savage quite often & even 95.9 was breaking into Tom Kent.

Did anyone hear anything on the Crossroads stations????

does anyone listen to the Crossroads stations? ;D

No way if there is severe weather am I going to put my safety in their hands. I doubt they do any live coverage at all. Too much work to turn the dish off and back on in a storm.

Crossroads use to use a decent weather service based somewhere up Noth and they would break and let you know where the heaviest stuff was and for some reason they dropped it. Sure was better than what they have to offer now and I'm sure it was alot cheeper too.
