Willis Broadcasting

Does anyone know what is going on with Willis Broadcasting these days? They own WAYE here in Birmingham, which has been off the air for at least a couple of weeks now. Their stream is still up, but disappears and reappears periodically, with only music and no announcers or programs anymore. Their phone has been disconnected as well. Just wondering if Willis Broadcasting was "taking on water", or maybe it's just strictly technical issues as to why WAYE is off the air. Any of the other Willis stations off the air, or is this just an isolated event?
 
Willis Broadcasting is notorious for poor operations. The FCC has, in the past, gone so far as to revoke licenses of Willis Broadcasting facilities and take them silent.

A more recent example is a thread on Radio-Info in Eastern North Carolina, titled "FCC visits WGTM." Apparently an engineer received a call from an FCC inspector, and he goes on to list a
number of violations that were found there.

What does not make sense is why Willis holds on to these stations, continues to operate without making the improvements, and expects that things will get better. And the FCC allows it to drag on for years and years.

I'm familiar with WAYE, and I'm sorry to hear this, but don't look for a pretty ending unless somebody somewhere begins using some brain cells.
 
Yes, Willis Broadcasting is such a major FCC rule violator that they give the FCC Enforcement Bureau inspector writer's cramp by the time he writes up the 999 violations he finds when he inspects the station. And the resulting pink slip is a large bound volume to boot.

Maybe my memory is wrong... but I thought several years back that the FCC had a (pardon the expression but it fits so well here) "Come to Jesus Meeting" in which they made it clear to the Willis organization that fines would be imposed at that time, and that Willis should strong consider selling all the stations before the FCC lost patience and started the expense (for both parties) of revocation proceedings.

The gears of regulation do grind slowly.
 
Willis has destroyed many once great radio stations. I know of several in my area (central mississippi) that are no longer on the air as a result.
