WILM did carry Obama/Biden event - local coverage was different than WDEL

An update to the thread I posted yesterday. I had a conversation today with a WILM staffer and WILM did carry, via Fox News radio, the 3pm Springfield event for Obama/Biden. If you recall from my original post, I hadn't tuned back to WILM at 3pm to hear what they did at that point. So apparently, WILM did pre-empt Rush at 3pm to carry the Springfield event. They didn't offer local coverage right before the event as WDEL did, however WILM did offer some local coverage, from what the WILM staffer told me, as their two Saturday morning local political talk shows (Harmon Carrey 8am - 9am and Dace Blastovitz (sp) 10am-11am gave callers the opportunity to discuss the Obama/Biden matchup and if I understood correctly Dace's show had a couple of interviews as well. So WILM did give the issue two hours of local time Saturday morning sandwiched between Ralph Woodrow's Home Handyman show at 9am.

So in fairness to WILM, both WDEL and WILM did offer local coverage of the event (the approach to this coverage was different from their competitor as WDEL carried a live and local event with interviews immediately prior to the actual event and then carried the event live via CBS radio, the other station WILM offered live and local discussion with some interviews earlier in the morning via their local political talk shows, then at 3pm carried the event live via Fox Radio.

It will be interesting to hear if WDEL and WILM offer the same coverage each offered this time when McCain makes his announcement.

I guess, it will be interesting to hear, how both WDEL and WILM cover the Democratic Convention starting Monday. Will WDEL pre-empt Phillies baseball to take CBS radio coverage of the convention? Will WILM pre-empt Savage and Levine to take the Fox radio coverage of the convention? Or will each station cherry pick and carry when a major speech or event is happening, like Hillary's, Obama's, and Biden speeches? Or will either station or both stations not cover the event at all and leave the live coverage to TV? With a Delawarean playing a lead role in this years Democratic convention (first time ever), one would think that they'd both carry their respective networks coverage.

Regarding McCain coverage: following live coverage of McCain/Palin's speech, Allan Loudell provided more than 90 minutes of reporting and analysis on the topic Friday afternoon.
