WILM's Nancy Lopez pulling down $75,000???

The April 11, Sunday News Journal included the USA Weekend section. It was USA Weekend's annual "What People Earn" edition. By happenstance they included a photo of Nancy Lopez, "Radio Reporter, Wilmington, Del.," alleging that she makes $75,000 a year!

In which universe is this occuring? I watched the board all week to see if anyone noticed or commented on this and no one has yet, surprisingly.

I doubt that any of the major morning personalities at WDEL or WJBR make this amount, so how can an employee of such apparent marginal status come anywhere near to pulling down $75 g's?,

It might be possible for a VERY GOOD sales person to make that much, I'm betting there was an extra Zero stuck in there.
I think that may be it, she's making extra money on the sales end. When I worked at KAZM in Sedona, AZ several of the other DJs sold ad time to make extra money. Paul often commented he made great $ selling 30 and 60 second spots to businesses around Sedona. Could be the same for Nancy.

I figured the USA Weekend thing had something wrong, because the only time I hear her on the air on WILM (thankfully) is on the weekends. Her news delivery is far less than stellar. The USA Today thing incorrectly describes her position as a "radio reporter." If radio reporters in Wilmington actually make that, I will come back looking for a job!!

I don't know Ms. Lopez and I have no idea how much she makes (it's really nobody's damn business but hers), but in general a good rule of thumb is to take any salary figure you hear quoted publicly and cut it in half... ;D

She has taken the issue out of the realm of being "nobody's damn business but hers" by agreeing to have her photo and an obviously inflated (or not fully explained) alleged salary figure printed in a national publication. It brings into question any of the other salary figures USA Weekend uses in their "what people earn feature" into serious question.

Even given that, I do not belive she performs a function for WILM that can in any way bbe calssified as a "reporter." I do not hear were anchoring newscasts or filing news reports during the week.

Given the few ads airing on WILM, I doubt she could make that much even as a sales rep.

Who knows, maybe CC Delaware has hired her in a management type position, where making 75K wouldn't be unusual. Maybe they asked her to continue to do the weekend voice tracking news updates as part of her duties, but during the week she occupies an office at the Basin Road studio (maybe she requested to get to keep doing the voice tracking as maybe she's really into radio and is a radio geek like most of us here). I worked with Nancy on weekends when I was as WILM about 4 years ago. She's pretty sharp, I don't know what her educational creds are. Don't let the Hispanic accent fool you into thinking she's not intelligent and capable. It wouldn't surprise me if she today was in some sort of management position at CC Delaware.
