WIMO 1300 AM

WIMO runs 650 watts during the day and 5 watts at night. They are there to serve their local community (Barrow County) and that is what they do. I applaud them for actually being live and local when you probably can't hear them 2-5 miles from their transmitter which is more than I can say for the 100kw stations in Atlanta.

My only comment is they need to hire a student from GA Tech to redesign their website. Otherwise, keep up the good work on pumping out live and local broadcasts! Wish the same could be said for most Atlanta stations. ;D

I think WIMO is a good example of what radio stations SHOULD be doing. Having streaming and a webcam is pretty cool for a small station....you can tell they are active in their community and have local participation.
Who killed radio? People who want "cool jocks" and Billboard music. People who don't understand orignality, the unique, community service....in short, people who really don't understand radio and people.
You have your stations(s) The Morning Mess and Bert Show are waiting for you.....

I worked at this station 3 yrs ago. I went thru 2 owner changes a building move, and it was pretty much chaos when I was there. The last owner while I was there wanted to flip this station to all religion, then all talk, and now back to serving the community. I like the latter, although I must say when I called the station about two weeks ago, the person on the phone was a rude S.O.B. Im under the impression that he thought he was a huge star.. Too bad, Radio used to be so much fun. I remember taking calls and actually enjoying speaking to my listeners.
Their website leaves much to be desired, and the people on the air all sound like they think they are in the bigtime. BUT its great to see them serving winder again.
I hope they keep this type of programming in mind.

Don't get me wrong, I think its great to have that much local content and host. More owners should take the risk and do what WIMO does (only better) and maybe radio could return to the days of personality radio. Now, with that said the guy on last night is playing alt rock (including one song that says "shitty") and he's painful to listen to. Sometimes a bit of structure mixed with decent local on air talent isn't a bad thing.
