WIMZ's A-Z and Billy Kidd suspended????

While listening to WIMZ this afternoon, I heard Billy Kidd talking about having to take a week's suspension. He said that was all he could say about it at this time. Does anyone know what he did to get suspended. Did he say something inappropriate? He is the only veteran DJ that station has, going back to the old morning show when he was partners with Phil Williams. Is this just a publicity stunt with Billy Kidd really going on vacation for a week or is it really a suspension? I remember Phil Williams got suspended at WIMZ then not long after that left.

WIMZ's also doing thier A-Z thing AGAIN - playing everything in their library from A to Z, except this time they're throwing in the songs that they "forgot" about the last go round. The promos for this have the announcer saying that they're breaking the rules and doing this even though the boss don't want them too. The DJ's are saying the same thing too. Saying that the boss is mad at them for playing all these songs but there's nothing he can do to stop them. That is just a bunch of hype, I think, to make the listeners feel like they practically own the station and can make it do anything they want it to do. I think they're just blowing some serious smoke up our butts to get a few extra ratings points/

I would say that they're blowing somke up our butts about the music
thing for sure...Can't do anything to stop them from playing certain
songs!!...Yeah right!!...but some folks will really believe that, and
for them it will be a revelation...As far as Kidd goes, must be some type
of "stunt".....Hardly ever air out in house problems on air unless there
is a benefit in some way....When TK left,he just left!!.no reason given...

IMZ needs to flip to country and take a little chunk out of ivk's stranglehold!!!..That would be very interesting!!!

Yeah, I heard about that at work last night so I've been giving WIMZ some listening time on the radio. Kinda wish they had done Z to A this time to put them in different order so that maybe I could catch some of the songs I missed last time. As long as they are doing this, though, I'll be listening.

It would be cool to play the artists in alphabetical order from A to Z sometime.

A station in Nashville did that a few years ago, started with I believe Aerosmith and ended with Frank Zappa, Warren Zevon and ZZ Top, I believe. It can be monotonous, especially when they start playing an artist that you are not a big fan of with a set of songs than can last for over an hour, such as the Grateful Dead for myself. I was in Knoxville for a few days each of the last two weeks on personal business and heard some of WIMZ A-Z. When I left on Saturday, they were still in the 'T's and had just finished with the songs that begin with "The" when I lost the signal. When did they finish the A-Z Countdown and what was the last song played? Also, did they play a lot of comments from listeners, such as "Who ever came up with the idea of 'A-Z' is a genius"?

They finished at around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday with Ziggy Stardust. This second go round of A-Z was supposed to include the songs that they had "forgotten" about the last time. One of the DJ's said that they found them hidden under one of the DJ's beds. Yeah right! They just added a few extras probably for that one time and they'll never be heard again. They didn't play any listener comments but made it sound like they were doing the A-Z countdown again despite what the "boss" wanted them to do. It was great to hear a few Beatles songs that haven't been played on Knoxville radio in years. They played more Beatles songs in a week than Oldies played in 2 years. Now, they're back to the same old worn out songs by the same 15 artists they play over and over again.

And I found out that Billy Kidd was suspended because he pulled a live on-air prank on Phyllis West. She got a little upset and said the F-word a few times. Since it was live, Billy had a hard time editing it out in time and it was heard on the air. A listener complained and Billy got suspended. He said on air that he was going to take his suspension next week.

I get the feeling that he's really going on vacation and the "suspension" story is a publicity thing to make listeners think there's a "contraversy" at the station.

Or, maybe a listener did complain, and if so then here's what really gets me. Phyllis said the F-word on the radio. Ok, so what. WIMZ plays Dr. Hook's "Cover Of The Rolling Stone." The song was released in the early 70's and WIMZ's played it for as long as I can remember. If you pay attention, in the very last lyric of the song while they're saying "Rolling Stone, gonna get our pictures on the cover, gonna get 5 copies for my mother" in the background one of the band members screams out "we're beautiful f__kers." To me, that's basically the same thing and Phyllis saying it. Maybe they should start beeping that out too???????????????????????????

Well what about Pink Floyd's "Money" with the doo goody good bullsh** line or Steve Miller's funky sh** going down in the city? Both of these have been played for years on FM stations all over the country and we all know WIMZ is quite fond of playing "Money." The point I'm trying to make is that if you are a listener to WIMZ you've heard these two songs plenty of times and if you are offended then you may need to be listening someplace else. Now I'm not in favor or putting an Eddie Murphy type of broadcast on the air, but the words in the songs are not excessive. And besides, if it was an accident that resulted in what Phillis supposedly said going out on the airwaves, then what's the big deal. Not like it's a wardrobe malfunction or anything, haha. I think the whole thing sounds a little hokey anyway. If I were to get suspended from my job, I would not get to pick when I wanted to be off. Sometimes WIMZ seems just seems a little redneck to me.
