WIND drops Savage for local talk

That's too bad. I like Steve Cochran, but I also like Savage, and I'm hoping some station in this market finds a home for him, even if it is a low rated suburban AM station. I will listen to Cochran though, but it remains to be seen if his moderate viewpoints will mesh with the rest of the station's lineup. It looks like Cochran will attract his own audience, but I don't expect most of them to be listening to the other WIND personalities.

I tend to like it when stations are live-and-local. However, not in this case. I'd much rather listen to Savage than to Steve Cochran. Nothing against Steve, it's just that Savage's show is interesting and different. I echo musicfanpete's sentiment about hoping that someone else will pick up the Michael Savage Show.

Savage has become rather cynical the last few years, sometimes that is really hard to listen to. Well, at least he lightens up a bit on Fridays when he plays some oldies. Big mistake is when he got mad at XM Satellite Radio and pulled his show off the bird...he claims that he wanted local radio stations and to support the local communities, but I and others still think it runs deeper than that. For those who want to hear Savage elsewhere, let us know where you tune in or listen online. It would be a good idea for another Chicago area station to carry his show, but I can't imagine who other than WIND would. Sticks like WRMN or WKRS might be okay, but he deserves to be on a full-market signal. The #4 talk radio host nationwide (according to Talkers Magazine, http://www.talkers.com/heavy-hundred/) shouldn't really be on only a 1kW AM stick...now that's an insult...

@MusicFanPete: Savage is still on 1060AM WHFB in Benton Harbor, Michigan. I know you can pick it up on Lake Shore Drive North.....The signal drifts nicely over Lake Michigan from the other side of the lake during the day. Program is on 5p-8p. However, with sunset coming sooner and sooner I doubt you'll get their signal too much after 6PM.

My Cable TV network in Phoenix has him on one of the CRN Cable Radio Network Channels.

Considering Limbaugh, Hannity and Levin is sort of a "package deal," Savage is doing fairly well to be number 3, but he seems to be losing big stations in big markets. In the SF Bay Area, where he got his start, one must listen to him on a Sacramento station, 50 miles away.

Since his son and wife, and maybe Savage himself have a piece of the Rockstar beverage fortune, the radio show is just gravy. I wonder if Limbaugh's tea business has something to do with envying the mega bucks that are out there in the beverage business even during a recession.

Thanks. I'll give that a try come the first week of October. Glad to see there are "closet" Savage fans who like his show. :)

Did not know that about him and his family owning part of Rockstar beverage! Yeah, the radio show and his books are gravy, but his books at least provide a much needed counterpoint to all the liberal reading material out there.

Savage goes to WJJG 1530 starting in Oct as rfeported by Feder.

And so does none other than Erich Mancow Muller, soon to be heard from 7 to 10 AM, with a repeat from 1 to 4 PM. Looks like Mr. Gentile is looking for some conservative leaning "shock jocks" to round out his lineup. I would not be surprised if this station gives at least WIND a run for their money despite the daytime only hours and fairly weak signal. Hopefully I can even pick up this station by the time I get home, which is only ten miles or so north of Elmhurst. But at only 760 watts, who knows if I can pick up their signal. At least it should come in loud and clear by the time I leave eastbound I-88 for northbound I -294! ;D

Savage on his home page has a section that alerts San Francisco listeners to tune him on KSTE in Sacramento. At this rate, he may need to add more alternates for major metro markets.

I really wish his 3rd hour was live. Parts of it are prerecorded interviews, his reading news stories earlier from his site or excerpts of past shows.

Sucks to see Savage go. I've been listening to AM 1130 out of Milwuakee a lot lately. Mark Belling at night and Jay Weber in the mornings. These guys give me even more reason to stop listening to WIND, well that and Cochran. Cochran was horrible on WGN. Pretty much everything that's part of WGN is horrible. Although Milt Rosenberg use to be good. Not sure if he is still around as I don't even bother listening to WGN at all anymore.

Agreed about WGN. Other than Milt & Steve & Johnny, there isn't anything on WGN worth listening to.

WJJG is a daytimer, right? Are they going to air Savage on delay (next day)? Isn't Chicago sunset around 6:00PM while daylight saving time is in effect and an hour earlier after DST ends? If so, the station won't be on the air when the live feed comes down. Maybe WJJG streams, but if you are going to resort to streaming to pick up the program, there must be dozens of sites that carry it either live or delayed. Of course, only WJJG is likely to carry the Chicago commercials.

They are airing Savage a day late. Friday's show is airing on Monday. Genius move huh?
Doesn't matter much as very few can even hear this station in the Chicago area.
