WIND on its way back?

The new numbers for WIND are pretty positive, since the new on-air changes.
So, will WIND become a player in Chicago talk-radio, or just a niche-talk leader?
(Their up to a 1.2 12+...any demos avail?)

Until they get more local shows (and I don't mean the weekend time brokered real estate and shrubbery shows), they will be a niche player. But, they will need to have money to go more local, and to get money, they need better ratings. But they will not get bigger ratings until they get more local (in my opinion). As far as their syndicated fare, I don't mind (except Laura Ingraham--I can't stand her voice). I listen to Savage quite a bit and Prager several times a week.

If you've got the latest Arbitron breakouts, for Men 18+ , from 3P-7P, Mon-Fri, WIND does pretty well, it's in the top 10...I guess Chicago likes Michael Savage & Michael Medved.

(I don't think I violated any Arbitron rules with that ...did I?)

In afternoons they probably get people who listen to WLS the rest of the day but don't find Roe conservative or serious enough for them.

I like Laura Ingram, Pager and medved. I hate Savage.. hes an annoying ass. He thinks hes the best in talk radio.. constatly coplimenting himself and scolding everone else. They should put Micaheal Reagen on instead.

I like Ingram, Prager and Medved as well, though Medved always brings on these ultra extreme liberals to argue against. I don't think that's a productive use of his time since that's not going to change their minds, and I don't think that makes for great radio.

I like Savage for his unique point of view in comparison to other, as he calls them, "lock step conservative" talk show hosts. But I agree he can be extremely arrogant to callers (though admittedly, some of them are deserving of his rants, some of them aren't). He still is entertaining though. But a nice idea regarding Michael Reagan. I haven't heard him for about fifteen years, and that was on a downstate radio station in Peoria. I think he would do very well for WIND as well.

Salem has the money; this is their model. As to Reagan, that shipped sailed... loooooooooong ago.

Look... it's Michael Reagan's radio career falling off the page...

Yeah, I'm old enuff to remember the old WIND, when it was talkradio... Clark Weber, etc.
I'm just excited to see this legendary station come back in a positive way with this format.
I tip my hat to Salem for making the investment to do more local programming, it always has an efffect with Chicago listeners. They have enuff wattage to get some serious numbers, so lets give some support!

Salem is making an investment in clearing their boring dreck in market #3 because they want to charge higher spot rates nationally and WLS, WGN, or any of the suburban stations won't air Medved, Hewitt, et al. And for good reason. WIND... no impact on the community. You can buy an primetime hour on the weekend on WIND for $1,250. There are stations in sub-20 markets that get that easily.

Glad to see WIND now has a local and LIVE show. The latest numbers are a great start.

WIND should have stayed Spanish N/T

Noticias y discurso made sense on AM 560. The WIND pattern is aimed right at the Windy City and doesn't waste the 5,000-watt signal.

Salem only programs religion or right-wing English talk for its AM stations. In its current incarnation WIND won't be a threat to WGN or even WLS.

Rumor has it ...if this format fails...they might try "mixing without a playlist" ...but I could be wrong....};>)

I used to only have WCPT playing out the left speaker... Now the right speaker has come to life with WIND. When both are playing simultaneously, the sound remarkably appears to come from the middle. ;D
