Windows Internet Radio Guide closing June 30th

Not sure why this is happening, anybody have a clue? There go HALF my listeners.....the only bright side is my royalty fees will be cut in half.

Maybe the landscape of internet radio is changing too quickly for the guide to stay current. Or maybe this is a concession that internet radio's future is in the hands of the major corporations, not the quirky hobbyists, and that players/guides operated by the big-time players will be the way the online masses will access whatever programming survives the great money grab of 2016.

Not to mention that nearly 90% of all listeners either turn to IHeartRadio, TuneIn or streaming services such as Pandora, Slacker, etc. for radio streams these days

Quite frankly, I'm amazed Microsoft kept it going as long as it did.....

JMO.....

Cheers & 73 :)

Exactly. I am listed on TuneIn, Simple Radio, and an indie app called Dance Radio+ and been promoting the smart phone apps.

Sirius XM Commercials...Cheap Production Values

The commercials on SiriusXm sound like a through back to local 50's Top 40's .
Loud, yelling and very cheap production values.
Turn OFF !!!!

Even worse are the promos, an earsplitting cacophony of studio hack work -- voices phased or constricted to telephone audio quality just because someone thinks it's cool-sounding. Using African-American-sounding voice talent strictly on promos for NBA Radio or urban or jazz music channels, the horrid phony-sounding growling NFL Radio promo announcer, the nasal just-out-of-high-school-sounding voices that promote upcoming sports schedules. Honestly, this wouldn't have been good-sounding radio in 1976.

Well they just wanted to start their own thing https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/groove and try to turn what I suspect was a money loser into a winner. Only time will tell if this works. But with big pockets and lots of time (look how long they held on to the guide) I doubt their new thing is leaving anytime soon.

Now back to me. I started running a 30 sec promo that the guide was folding a few weeks ahead of time and suggested my top 4 portals as replacments. Somewhat successful. I'd say my actual audience loss was around 30% instead of 50%. Now, I have about 2000 business cards with "Windows Internet Radio Guide" on them (as a portal). You can't win for losing!
