Wings

Once again the biggest live local radio event of the year is happening today, and no one here cares (including me) - not one post until this one. But it will be all over the papers and tv - the Inqy website is doing live updates and posting photos as I write this. I have worked in offices where this was the biggest event of the year for some co-workers, who would never believe it if you told them WIP wasn't the top-rated station in town.

WIP certainly gets more free publicity once a year from this than maybe any radio station anywhere gets for an annual event.

Makes me wonder why in this copycat business there are not wingbowls or similar events held by sports stations all over the country today. If one station can become "Jack" and dozens of others jump on the format before there are any ratings to show that people will listen, wonder why a proven self-publicity event like this hasn't been widely copied elsewhere?

Ever wonder why the Inquirer website has more, and better, wing bowl coverage than the WIP website ?

what's up with that ?

Backwater

Possibly because Philadelphia is not exactly a national trend-setter in the radio biz - for exactly the same reasons that cause people on this board to complain about local radio.

Who won? With the Eagles out of the playoffs I've listened to WIP a lot less than I normally do this time of year, so I didn't really follow the Wing Bowl that closely. <P ID="signature">______________
