Winky Dink

I assume they were sponsored by Formula 409, Janitor in a Drum, or some other such product that could remove
crayon marks from a glass screen?

They offered a piece of plastic you could put over the screen to draw on. Not every kid's mom was willing to spend the money (or buy the sponsor's product to get the proof of purchase) so a lot of kids just went ahead and drew on the screen. This was before Dr. Spock, when spanking was more common. I was one of those kids. My mom used a hair brush on me. She used Windex on the TV screen (which worked fine).

Then she gave me some plastic wrap. Lick the corners and it sticks to the screen.

Jack Barry wasn't getting enough income from selling over-priced plastic sheets, so he moved on to rigged quiz shows, until the government started investigating. One of them was hosted by Mike Wallace, moved on to investigating, as well.

I remember using a piece of clear plastic wrap on the screen to draw the requested marks. It was too thin and erasing on it tended to tear it up. Later on, I wrote away and got the actual screen. It was a heavy plastic with a greenish tint to it that would stick to the TV screen. In the directions, it was noted that the screen could be left on the TV screen as it helped cut down on picture tube glare.
