WINS/WCBS Shakeup: Lopez to WINS Middays, Quinn & "Newsline" move to WCBS

Read the article at RadioInsight, but the gist is that Lynda Lopez is returning to Audacy to anchor mid-days on WINS, which will be headline-intensive per the normal WINS style, while Bridgette Quinn is moving back to WCBS, where her mid-day show will be more longform.

This is kind of what I expected to see post-consolidation, where WCBS takes a more longform, conversational approach to news, while WINS keeps with its tightly formatted format clock. It helps differentiate the stations in an era where it makes little sense to have two similarly structured stations under the same roof.

I think WCBS middays has been a rotating set of characters since Lynda Lopez left the last time (Jan 2022).
Correct. During Mets season they'd slide either Steve Scott or Michael Wallace up to that slot if the Mets pre-empted most of the PM drive block.

Also, Audacy has clearly had a hiring freeze in place. This was a slot that went unfilled as was Vickie Allen's evening slot (now made redundant with the overnight hours running pre-taped). 1010 WINS hasn't had a regular co-anchor in the evening slot with Lane Bajardi, either.

Presumably we'll start seeing some of the roles filled out.

At the bottom of the release it says "Additional announcements will be made in coming weeks." Hmmm. Stay tuned.
If you happened to see the new thread, that appears to be one of these additional announcements; WCBS 880 15-minute simulcast on WCBS-FM between 5:30 AM and 5:45 AM.

Kevin Rincon debuted working the bottom of the hour during middays today.
Lynda Lopez debuted at 6PM, sliding in for Larry Mullins in what clearly was a practice run.
Brigitte Quinn has been missing on middays the last two weeks - presumably preparing for Newsline to move to WCBS.
I'm sure we'll see a press release before the end of the week outlining the new schedules and any additional changes.

Mario Bosquez has moved from overnights to the vacant bottom of the hour evening shift opposite Lane Bajardi.
Hearing some WCBS talent (Ashok Bhalla) who had covered overnights before it moved to pre-recorded doing overnights on WINS. Will be interesting to see what the long term move is here.

The "Newsline" branding, and the number of times it's repeated during the show, is almost farcical. It sounds like an SCTV parody of the news from 1981.

I've listened to this daypart and it's just...the news. Same format as the rest of the day with some awkward live interaction with reporters and a few dubious interviews thrown in. It seems like they're trying to turn this daypart into a cult of personality while I'm sure most people are expecting the usual WCBS news format when they hit that button in the car. I can't get over how antiquated it sounds.

I can’t think of too many people who could fill the midday shoes on WCBS better than Brigitte Quinn. With or without the Newsline branding, she provides a distinct midday personality instead of a rotating cast of people. It should be advertised for people who aren’t paying attention.
