WINT 1560 Dead Air

As far as I could tell, there was dead all day today on ESPN 1560, WINT Melbourne. Tuned in at 7:05am, 7:25, 10:45, 11:45 and 6:10pm. I believe my truck radio had a carrier, but it was just dead air (no static at all). Any info on what was up?

Yes I heard the same thing as well. I am not sure what techincal issues they have but "it sounds like an STL issue." They are a trying radio station and the crew there really does their best to keep it going.

If it was an STL issue, why did they not send someone to the transmitter site with a Blue Box or HotLine and get it back on the air using POTS? You have to plan for STL and ISDN down time and have a third backup. If no Blue Box or HotLine, grab a small mixer, a cd player, and some CDs and put that on the air from the transmitter site. The dead air can mean station money loss from spots missed. If it was a transmitter issue, that is another story, depending on the brand and model of transmitter. Harris will overnight parts. However, if it is a Harris box, I have known them to run at reduced power, at least, with a dead module, if the box is solid-state.
