Winter 06 Phase I for Jax

Guest
Well here it is Phase I for Winter 06 and it looks like some shockers are here:

1. WQIK (Up By a bunch.....read my opinoion below)
2. WOKV (not too bad holding steady for their peformance as a N/T)
3. WJBT (def not bad...up by a tad)
4. WSOL (holding steady basically)
5. WAPE (seems to have sliped a bit...but still remains in the top 5)
6. WEJZ (slipping here.....some work maybe needed)
7. WJGL (never mind they are sitting worse then they where they were at a year ago right after COOL was dumped....and not in the top 5)
8. WFYV (still seeing a slide here..the lost of L&T are hurting them)
9. WPLA (that frequency switch helped them in this Phase and with L&T being back it is only going to get better)
10t. WFKS (seems to hold steady but having a 12,000 watt tower is not going to help them beat WAPE)
10t. WMXQ (holding steady now...it seeems that 80's may last longer in Jax now....other parts of the country are not so lucky)
12t. WGNE (This was a shining spot in the book as i saw it. WGNE gets a pat on the back for improving...now two away from being a top 10 station...amazing go Gator)
12t. WZAZ (tied with Gator and is holding steady)
14. WBGB (what is going on here???)
15. WKQL (hum time for a PD change........needed now!!!)
16t. WFXJ (seems to hold steady from book to book)
16t. WROO (them at 93.3 now.....means bad book and it is happening again.....no improvement what so ever...)
18. WJSJ/WSJF (this is a shock with a slide down....I thought Jazz did well here??)
19. WCGL (about normal, but up a tad)
20. WJGR (about normal)
21. WZNZ (about normal)
22. WHJX (it seems they go up and down like a roller coaster)
23. WSOS (never mind about this one)

What I see here is something totally askew with this Phase I: 1) WQIK could not have gone up by that much not with the way WGNE showed improvement over this Phase. As for WROO the killing time is needed now...improvement on a tower that sucks south of the city....come on something like Classic Rock would do you better now or even Jack FM like station...ditch the Rooster and just let WQIK and WGNE have there battle starting now.

WJGL is not even close to where they were a year ago and that is a shame on them....they should have kept the oldies...but think of this one with 100.7 would still be Classic Rock right if Cox had not dumped the oldies....they could have done like what Q105 in Tampa has done by evolving from oldies to classic hits but manages to maintain all the stuff from Motown to some early rock hits of the 80's...and their numbers show that listners are still there.

Planet is improving with more power now......it is amazing what one simple switch can do....I look forward to seeing this station compete for a Top 5 spot in the future.

Well later
mburg

Actually, I can not disagree with you mburg now residing in staugstn. I, as Your one and only Superjax am privy to the 1st month only numbers.

As we enter 2006 reason to celebrate
WQIK
WJBT
WSOL
WJGL
WPLA
WFKS
WGNE
In other words Miss Gail and Jeff Davis and yes Scott Walker may open the bubbly!

Down more than the rolling average shows are the following stations
WOKV
WAPE
WEJZ
WFYV
WBGB
WKQL (Shocker as All Access would say)
WROO

Following the rules, That is the ratings Scoop from the Soup

All I can say is that Gator is head for greener pastures then Rooster. Miss Gail please kill Rooster.....it is time that is ditched for something else.

There are no "shockers" or surprises here, especially when you quote 12+ numbers. The rank positions can vary quite a bit, which is the dase here. WJGL, for instance, is #3 25-54 and that is WAY better than when they did Oldies. And WGNE's "shining spot" still barely has them in the top 15 25-54.

Keep it in perspective- and please quit quoting 12+ ratings (which are never used to make strategic or tactical decisions) when they have ZERO effect on the real ratings races.

Re: Jax

Well how did mornings do for WGNE??? I bet you they were up while WQIK's mornings were down. WROO mornings just forget about it. Oh what about the afternoon drive time. I bet you they were up for WGNE. For Gator to have a jump like that is something.

Thanks Oldies Cat

I appreciated the (respectful) comments you made in response to the oldies radio thread I started below. I must admit, you are prepared and bring credibility to what you say.

Anyway, your comment here about Eagle doing way better 25-54 than they did as an oldies station really nails it shut. As you and others who read my usual threads concerning the oldies format no doubt know - I'm a big fan of that format. But deep down inside - I know you are right. I do wish the business environment were different for a real oldies format to thrive nationally. Maybe part of it is that I am personally sensitive in that I will be 54 in a couple of weeks and I'm now almost "over the hill" as far as advertisers are concerned. LOL.

But radio is full of surprises - who knows what the consultants will say down the road. For oldies, I tend to see things differently than most but again, thanks for your well-thought commentary. I enjoy reading what you say and sometimes it helps ground me! :)

Thanks

I as a big a fan of the Oldies format as you. And, while hopeful for the future of the format, I'm also realistic (as you are).

They're (WGNE) ranked 14th in morning drive (in the key adult demo, their target).

Okay, we really need Braswell to intervene NOW! QUICKLY!

sure

LMAO- see, this is what I get for making-nice and agreeing with somebody. I should just be as intense and heavy-handed as our Moderator so everybody's comfortable.

LOL

My biggest gripe with you is that you may come to Jax occasionally but think you know what happens in the market. Do I agree with alot of your comments on the state of Oldies, yes, has Renda made mistakes big time but from my sources the revenue is up from last year significantly and that is what this crazy business is really about.

sure

You're welcome to gripe all you want(though, to what end I'm not sure).

I am as free and perhaps as informed to make observations about the market, regardless whether I live there or not. Successful radio is successful radio and, really, isn't that different market-to-market. The names change but the game remains the same.

If it's that big a deal to you, get R-I to change the rules so you can only post on your home market's page.

I went to an intervention once...

...and I didn't like it.

They (they being them, of course) wanted me to stop chain-smoking Chesterfield cigarettes, stop smoking hemp, stop drinking that fifth of Old Crow before lunch everyday, stop snortin' a line an hour, stop ridin' the horse on the mainline, quit redheads cold turkey, and they wanted me to promise to never again listen to another Donny Osmond record.

Nope...I didn't like it. I couldn't stand the idea of no more Donny.

Soooooo, go ahead...knock yourself out. Kiss those hard luck women from Detroit Rock City, Beth and her 16 year old sister, Christine. You'll be rockin' & rollin' all night (and partying everyday)!
