As I did on the Houston board, the GOOD, BAD, & UGLY...
GOOD:
KHKS... Kiss-FM #1. Congrats.
KLUV... I thought after Ron left, they'd be in trouble. I'm glad that's not the case.
KSCS... Glad to see they're back on top of the country ratings in the Metroplex.
Up nearly a share while KTYS and KPLX were flat.
KEGL... A nice book, we'll see if the format has staying power.
KRNB... In the words of our wonderful President, "Stay The Course!"
BAD:
KESS... I guess KEGL stole their thunder.
KEGL mostly competes against KLNO; I would think Liberman's relatively new KNOR 93.7 and KBOC 98.3 are taking away some of KESS's audience.
WBAP... not sure why they're down. I figured the Stars might help them in Winter.
I would think post-election politics is the problem. Both parties top leaders in Washington have approvals in the 20s and 30s...people getting tired of both parties' leadership I suppose other than the hardcore right and left. I don't think my Stars can help...too many Pacific time zone games + Mavs hot regular season competing against some of the games.
On the Mavs, they've had really impressive TV ratings this season...KESN seems to have only gotten a minimal bounce. KTCK's ratings were off a little during the Cowboys season, so maybe games on the radio in this market isn't the draw it is in some other places.
KPLX... Oh, how the mighty Wolf has stumbled. Time to "Flex Your Plex again!"
KDGE... Alternative had a great book in Houston, and a bad one here. Oh well.
I'd love to see the morning numbers...I have to believe Lex & Terry drag KDGE down....like W&J on KDBN.
KDMX... I realize they increased a tenth of a share, but it's still lousy.
UGLY:
KVIL... An AC station with little competition should do better, especially that one!
It has a competitor...KLTY. KLTY plays some AC music you can hear on KVIL (The Fray/How To Save A Life, for example) and targets the same white suburban mom KVIL does...and seems to do a better job at that.
KJKK... Time for "Jack" to head up the hill with Jill and stay there.
KSOC... KRNB's addition of Steve Harvey is bad news for them.
KMVK... Not exactly an "Oasis" of ratings success. Time to Move on out!
Except for the original Movin' in Seattle (KQMV 92.5 there), none of the Movin' clones seem to have done much except generate lower ratings. I still think KQMV only has been a success since the format is primarily targetting black and Hispanic females and Seattle has no station that targets those groups, leaving them to KQMV. I wonder if KQMV would be successful if it had a couple of urban ACs in the market. With KRNB, KSOC, KZZA, and KFZO, is there enough of an audience for KMVK...I don't think so.
KTYS... If a Twister hits DFW, and no one turns on 96.7, will it make a sound?!
The rest of the numbers were predictable. KKDA is getting some healthy competition from KBFB. Reminds me of the K104/100.3 Jamz feuds, but they both actually played music then, and they sounded a lot better.
Not a great book for News/Talk.
