Mainly, is this a thing that everyone has gotten to experience, and whether it is common or not. We are just about a month away from the Winter Solstice and Christmas, so what is a reasonable expectation for Snow Skip?

Winter E-skip Questions

I can only tell you that the one and only time I heard winter E-skip was near the end of January. In the Chicago area I heard an FM from Miami, Fl.
In December of 2005, I was driving outside of San Angelo and heard country on 99.5; I thought the Lubbock station was getting out pretty well. It turned out to be WQYK from Tampa/St. Petersburg. I also caught WXTB (98 Rock).
Here in Canyon Lake, in February of 2006, I pulled in KUPD and KOOL FM from Phoenix and later in the month, the old 93 Rock from Miami.

In the past five years, I've logged about a dozen stations via e-skip in the winter season. The openings here in San Antonio, TX, have taken place between late November and late January.
The winter openings haven't happened every year here, and they typically aren't as frequent and don't last as long as they do with summer e-skip. Interestingly, these openings have been to my west (AZ, CA) and southwest (Mexico) more often than not.

One day in late december 2017 in the hills of NW PA, south of lean NY.. i had something on 99.5 so strong i thought it was a 99.5 id forgotten abut elsewhere in PA, NY or OH. They were running some kind of music show.
Turns out it was KMCJ 99.5 Colstrip, MT. Hung in banging like a local on and off for 20 minutes.. nothing else was on the air out of the normal, i scanned multiple times.
Heres what I caught at TOH that made me fall out of my chair
That was my longest Eskip log.. about 1500 miles only to be beat out by about 50 miles or so by 92.5 Havre, MT in the summer of 2018

You’re welcome. I believe that it’s the same mechanism. We just have a minor e-skip season in the Northern Hemisphere when the season is peaking in the Southern Hemisphere (and vice versa).
