Winter MW openings begin

Today in Pontiac, IL, 100 mi SW of Chicago, at noon today the following were strong and clear.
Despite IBOC and obvious locals.....

550-St Louis
600-WMT Cedar Rapids
700-WLW CN, OH
910-? Iowa
1070-WIBC Indpls
1120 KMOX St Louis
1540 KXEL Waterloo, Iowa

I was suprised I could copy WLW through the hash of WLW and WGN. I could hear but not copy 690.
WSM at 650 was detectable.

Last night was great - with my little hand-held $10 Sony ICF-S10MK2, I finially was able to pick up KRLD Dallas from Maryland (1200 miles), with WTIC Hartford fading just enough, for a minute !

the 910 station is WSUI, Iowa City...the npr affiliate for eastern Iowa. It's a 5'000 watt staton

Yes, I also picked up KXEL from Iowa in Somers Point NJ before 1540 in Philly powered up.

And last week in my driveway on my standard Delco car radio, the one that picks up everything but sounds so bad you can't listen to it, I logged:

a noisy 990 Philly, 1000 Chicago, 1010 WINS NY, 1020 KDKA P'brg, 1030 WBZ Boston, 1040, 1050 CHUM, 1060 KYW phly, 1070, and 1080 around 7pm.

a noisy 990 Philly, 1000 Chicago, 1010 WINS NY, 1020 KDKA P'brg, 1030 WBZ Boston, 1040, 1050 CHUM, 1060 KYW phly, 1070, and 1080 around 7pm.

1040 is likely WCHR from Flemington NJ. Its night pattern runs SSE to cover Trenton as well as the COL.

1070 -- was that CBC Radio One (CBA) from Moncton NB or WKOK from Sunbury PA? CBC has filed with the CRTC to move CBA to FM.
