Cox HAS to do something now about "THE POINT". There is no excuse for a station with its reach to have a hideous share like they had. Like other posters, I think they'd do well to challenge "Sunny" or as I've said "Majic" with either an AC format or Urban AC format. Both are ripe for the picking.
K-Hits is a work in progress. They have some very decent personalities. Word to the wise, Paul Christy is a TREMENDOUS personality. He has no business reading straight liner cards and scripted material, as-is. Let him be the personality that he has always been! Also, quit trying to be Houston's THIRD Classic Rock station. When did "Oldies" become a bad word?! ???

Listen to either your sister station, KONO/San Antonio or check out these "Greatest Hits of the 60's & 70's" stations... KRTH/Los Angeles, WWSW/Pittsburgh, KLUV/Dallas-Fort Worth, WZZN/Chicago. Homogenized Radio will not win you any listeners.
"Country Legends" could use some more personalities, besides Tubby. Right now, it's basically a Country Oldies jukebox with commercials. You can't tell me that you can't find any personalities that wouldn't line up to do that format?! This is the town that made the "Urban Cowboy" famous, not to mention we have one of the biggest Rodeos in the World. Just like my "Point with The Point" in a previous post, there is a way to make this format work, work well, and make it fun. However, Cox is not paying me for Programming Advice and until they do, I'll keep my visions to myself.
I was impressed with KROI's numbers. The overall share is not really impressive, but it is the highest rating they've had with that signal, and adding "Brother" Larry Jones gave them instant credibility. I'm no fan of Radio One, but I love Larry and I am happy for their success there.
I'm afraid the writing might be on the wall for KHJZ. The exodus of local personalities, and the fact the music is become more and more AC and less and less about Smooth Jazz, is just turning listeners away. I think they've hit a stale place in the road as well. I think their best bet would be to do a format like KBLX/San Francisco. It is a hybrid Soft Urban AC/Smooth Jazz combo. It is quite different than they are doing now, but I think they'd find more success with it. You could block format some strictly Smooth Jazz shows, kind of like "Sunny" used to do, that would take care of the Smooth Jazz audience. I don't want to see the Smooth Jazz format disappear, but at this rate, I don't see a long shelf life for it.
The rest of the stations are kind of what I expected.
