Winter ratings wrapup

Short version. Clear Channel's QIK, Planet and V101.5 do very well. Kiss is steady, Beat is down a bit and Rooster's way back. Cox's Eagle doing good, WOKV down, Ape, Point and Rock 105 all OK. Renda's new country station breaks a three share. Lite is off. Kool and Sunny are jokes.Long version.WQIK gets the prize for number one overall. In mornings, the Big Show is number one overall and third 25-54. Must be a lot of 35-64's listening.V101.5 got its best numbers in the last six months. Tom Joyner was second overall in mornings, but first 25-54. Lex n Terry basically doubled Planet's ratings. LnT are third overall, first 18-34 and second 25-54. The numbers dring the rest of the day are awesome. Overall, Planet's first 18-34 overall and second 25-54.WOKV's down. They were working on the towers for a power increase, so that may explain some of it. Dropped out of the top five in 25-54's. Ouch.Beat's down to fifth overall, but second 18-34. Doug Banks was second 18-34 in mornings. Number one in nighttime 18-34's.Eagle's solid. Sixth overall, but third in 25-54's. Not bad at all.Lite's numbers are off considerably falling from number 2 overall in the summer to number 7 in the winter. Midday and afternoon ratings show the biggest drops. Guess the at work station just isn't working for people like it used to.Ape still has a huge audience, they just don't stick around long. Less now than in the last six months. Number three 18-34 overall and in the morning.Rock 105 almost made the top five in overall 25-54's, probably will in the spring. Pretty good for a station that lost the biggest stars in Jacksonville radio.Kiss rounds out the top 10 overall. They're fourth in 18-34's right behind Ape. They have a new big shot calling the shots. Looks like the Kiss-Ape fight is just getting started.Other stations... Point is not a factor. Gator's over the three share level. Kool is 15th, Rooster 16th and Sunny 19th! These three stations were all outperformed by a gospel music AM and a christian hits FM. Look for Kool to have a new PD soon. Clear Channel's probably not going to give up on Rooster just yet.

I'm surprised at the lack of response to virtually any topic posted on this board over the last month. Maybe the regular contributors are having trouble getting reinstated. At any rate, this is an interesting eval of the last book. All I'll say for now is I'm sick and tired of hearing about KOOL getting a new PD. There are posts going back over a year on that one. Nothing seems to change over there. And those posts about Pat Garrett sightings, so what? This is no disrepect to Pat as I'm among his biggest fans but unless we hear that he has been hired somewhere in Jax, the point is moot. And it only ads fuel to the fire that reminds us that so many in the radio biz with talent are often the ones who are unemployed.I agree about Rooster. When they sponsored that Kenny Chesney concert a month or so ago, it became clear that nothing would happen to them anytime soon. 2 country stations should be enough in this market but that subject has been beaten to death enough as is.WEJZ has just been going through the motions for too long. A stand-alone AC in virtually any other market would be close to #1 or #1. From my respective, Valerie Seagraves represents a great addition to the morning show and she does complement Arthur. I'm sure Gary Spurgeon will be devoting considerable time to get EJZ back on track.WOKV, I think, will rebound stronger as we get closer to elections. There will always be an audience for Rock 105 but I doubt the station will ever have the domination they once had in this market. Eagle markets themselves very well and the playlist is tight. They have made a name for themselves and I expect them to continue to do well. Personality still rules. With numbers for the Big Show and L&T, for example, it shows that in the mornings, music is not the star.
