Winter Weather Watch 2006...

Its that time, once again, we're going to see every single news station in this town predict the end of all humanity via frozen precipitation. I want to know: whos going to do it right, whos doing nothing and whos going to launch into overkill mode??

OVERKILL A Tie between Pete Delkus and Ch.4
Sensibility (thank God its on a weekday) Ch.5 -David Frinfrock. If it was on a weekend the overkill would be Channel 5. However Ron Burgundy ( Mike Snyder)may tip it back to overkill for channel 5 with dramatic facial imagery, and ennuciation from Jane McGarry.
Sensibility will be from Ch.8's John Mcaa.

Ch.11 Khristine Khanek seems to have improved in her gulps and dramatic pauses. If Mike Burger Handles it..the winner is Ch.11 in sensibility.

do news stations have to pay higher insurance rates, since they are the first idiots to get out on the ice?

Thats a good question......Seeing how brandon todd nearly got him and his photog ran over this morning live, I wonder what they pay in premiums??

Yea, and they were running towards the truck while it was coming at them. :)

I always thought that would go to Paul Adrian or Becky Oliver, as they like to stick their noses in private business and are lucky not to have had a brick thrown through their window, nor ended up with a horsehead in their bed ;)

The winner of the WINTER WARNING FOR NORTH TEXAS AWARD:

KXAS CH.5 .Continous coverage. Becky Miller did a good job. Finfrock was better, no nonsense. Brett (?) Johnson's coverage of Denton was great. Steve "Weather boy from 'Jersey"was the dumb one. No Hood, no cap,or hat and his repeated references to "the view of Ft.Worth ,2 miles away".

Ch. 8 The anchors were OK. Pete Delkus was reading from "Othello"when describing the weather. I half expected him to break out a skull and do "Hamlet".He kept slapping his hands.I do hope WFAA has an on site callous remover for him. He will need it. Steve MCCauley should have done the coverage. Alexis (Morticia) was a waste of time in doing Traffic. She cited the wrong intersections ,twice than was shown, and at one point she said that"Tx Dot cameras show the West Bound 820 at the North Freeway in Ft.Worth has no problems'If you looked there was a three car accident with a SUV and police on the scene.

Ch. 4 Morrie and Jerry were more important

Ch.11"TheYoung and the restless "was likewise more inportant.

+ 1

while the weather effects everybody, I do not understand spending so much time on traffic. Just simply give us the facts and move on. Only few people watching will drive down those roads.

I think they all went overboard, personally. You would have thought the world was coming to an end. As for Steve McCauley, I don't think I've ever seen anyone get a woody so quickly than he does for new weather patterns. He is going to wear his hands out going up and down the green screen as well. :)

Lastly, why doesn't CBS-TV Channel 11 have a noon news? Are their ratings that horrible that they'd rather put the Y&R in that time slot ??? That is pretty pathetic that a MAJOR market station doesn't have a noon news broadcast, even a 30 minute one !!

11 had their song and dance hour on at 9am until it was replaced by rachel ray...I have a feeling that that cast will be back by summer, as that show just stinks.

I also agree on Steve and his "weather wood", the man seems to crave meteorlogical disasters and relishes in them.

Noon news used to be more important in this market but now, well, uh, Chapel 8 seems to be doing the most emphasis on the timeslot of the 4 stations. As far as 11, I guess they didn't want to lose anyone between Y&R and B&B; meanwhile 5 hasn't been all that hot about noon since they did the news/Dateline combo way back in the day. Guess there's more ad revenue in syndie stuff (or fluff) than there is in actually trying to inform their viewers or at least being relevant to their market.

I wonder what Marty Haag thinks about Channel 8's noon newscast?

About 10 to 20 minutes, I think, is devoted to entertainment industry "news".

I know that the 9 pm on Fox KDFW 4 does a LOT of "news" items on American
Idol since that is more than likely, the most popular show, ever on FOX, but to
pimp out a newscast for your entertainment shows is "tacky" if you ask me.

I'd rather see Becky Oliver go after another crook or possibly see Paul Adrian actually go to a barber shop and get a hair-cut !! :)

Marty would probably fire everyone. The line between news and entertainment has blurred so much over the years. Ch.11 is doing better with "Y&R" than doing news at 12 noon. It brings in the $$. It offers an alternative since to 8. The noon time news is generally pimped for stay at home moms. Look at the court shows, soap operas ,game shows,do you think they are geared for stay at home males? Women demographics ar higher in thsoe time periods and women love celebrity gossip stuff. Journalistic news is pretty much a phase in history, especially daytime.

Steve besides Finfrock is the best weatherman in the dfw market. A true weatherman gets excited when a significant event is about to take place and his/her forecast is accurate. Harold did the samething if you remember. Pete on the other "hand" is getting callouses from slapping his hand with the other after every adjective and adverb.

Oh I'm not saying he isn't a good weatherman, but he does get a HUGE woody out of an approaching weather pattern change..........well lets face it, in Texas the weather changes every 15 seconds. He needs to pace himself, he is going to wear himself out getting all these woodies :) !!

I cannot stand anything about Channel 5. I don't know why but I've just never been much of an NBC viewer, even when growing up.

Might as well get used to Pete, he is going to be here for a while.

Speaking of people using their hands, I think the guy from Texas Toyota could have a good contest with the girl from Standard Insurance for using the most hand gestures in a 30 second commercial. :)

That would be a good betting event to hold. :)

Lastly, anybody else think the girl from Fried's furniture is having an affair with all the furniture she is rubbing all over??? :)

Hey, you forgot about "The Round Man With The Square Deal"! All the arm waving and fat man huffing for us to visit 12-12 LOOP 12!!! made for quality entertainment

On the Freids furniture lady, I met her some years ago at a friends party, shes smokin' hot in person and has the attitude to go with it...She in alot of ways reminds me of that over friendly cat who has relations with the couch.

Slambang, the furniture guy is ALL in a class by himself with the arms moving around and around..............

I guess in Houston you've got Matress Mac. :)

So, who is the chic from Fried's? Is she the owner's mistress, girlfriend, etc????
You don't see her on any other ads at all.............she is smoking hot, but she just rubs allllllll over that furniture. She could rub all over me instead. :)

ha ha ha !!
