Wintry deja vu: "Operation Snowball," southern style

Good morning from Raleigh NC, where I'm visiting client WPTF.

Think we New Englanders go into full milk-and-bread panic mode when winter weather threatens?
Down here, they started canceling school yesterday on WORD of snow.

So I had to grin this morning. When the hotel clock radio came-to-life, I heard plenty of no-school announcements, even though a flake had yet to fall.

I'M NOT MAKING THIS UP.
Down here, they don't SALT the roads.
They actually spray a solution of SEA BRINE that was prepared the day before.

On the radio here this morning, cancellation announcements are peppered with progress reports about "SALT BRINE."

I know he's somewhere-up-in-radio-heaven, smiling.

I'm sure there were no "No school Foster-Glocester" announcements, but there is a Smithfield, NC nearby.........

<<Down here, they don't SALT the roads.
They actually spray a solution of SEA BRINE>> Since salt water freezes at 28 degrees, that would never work in the Northeast.

I've heard the term Brining The Roads used in traffic reports on KYW 1060 here. And PENNDOT does spray the roads with a brine solution.....
