4TH ANNIVERSARY achieved for Juke Box Gold May 8th 2011...and what a way to celebrate Mother's Day. We recently added some of those early 70s faves that haven't seen the light of day nor the brush off of a Swiffer...and the folks listening are enjoying. Streaming has taken this show to where it is a favourite (spelled that way) in places like the UK and Australia. Regulars - including a pro or two in the bunch - have been jogging my brain to make the show better with each passing week.
Apparently there is a fan club as well, started by one of the staunch supporters and her cast of characters - great people, all - knowing full well I'm not the 'fan club' type. They've handed me marching orders to 'shut up and just keep doing what you're doing' so I don't even know their tales about the show - but it's apparently on Facebook.
Not a Facebook kind of guy, either - except at the station - where we just talk 'the show' there. Some of us fossils are holdouts to the 'blab it all to the world' crowd found on social sites. It has its place. However, this thing we do is more about the audience and the music, being the personality and presence that radio has all but lost in so many markets. Thankfully not all the terrestrial world has been taken over by bean counters and researchers, and much as they may have their place, it does not fit this scenario. That allows the real essence of what radio is, was and should be to come forth. People still love that kind of live, real and memory-jogging relative connection and actually turn the radio up on Sunday mornings.
For those out of range: winyradio.com. Sundays 6-11am.
