WIOD now on 100.3 and 93.5 FM

Since disposing of WIOD and KFI, Cox seems to have forgotten how to do real talk radio of the Rogers/R&S/Randi/Hendrie variety. If Cox launched a talker, you would probably hear Neal Boortz, Clark Howard and a lot of third-rate syndication.

That's been brought up on these boards too. Let's say Cox makes an unsolicited offer for WIOD and gets the station back.

What WOULD WIOD sound like under Cox ownership in 2011, whether on AM or FM??
 
Cox will not be buying WIOD, no way no how. And they certainly won't be flipping any of their FM's which all seem to be doing just fine. But to answer your hypothetical question: The answer is look at what Cox does on their news talks. A news driven morning news/magazine followed by Neal Boortz, Rush, Hannity and somewhere in the mix, Clark Howard.

Cox has not "forgotten how to do real talk radio of the Rogers/R&S/Randi/Hendrie variety." Cox really didn't "do" that - it just sort of happened. They got Neil and the monster evolved from there. And they sold it - for what was a fire sale price. Their idea of 'real talk radio" is what they are doing in JAX, ATL, Dayton, Tulsa and wherever else they have a news/talk. This formula has been very successful.
 
I just heard WIOD on 93.5 from my car radio at my workplace area, not far from the MIA airport, with the Reach translator under it.

I don't know how long this WIOD 93.5 has been on air....last time I tried, it was not there (maybe 2-3 weeks ago?).

They still promo on air as 100.3 FM, but not 93.5.

What you heard was W228BY 93.5 Allapattah, Florida. The translator currently holds a CP to increase power to 250 watts ERP at 499 feet with a COL change to Miami. It's currently operating with 120 watts ERP at 148 feet. The parent station is listed as WIOD-AM 610.
 
I think today's Cox isn't much like the Cox of pre-1986. There were some big changes around that time and the old guard faded away.
 
Was driving up U.S. 1 from Coconut Grove and then onto 95 through downtown and then across the MacArthur yesterday afternoon and didn't pick up 100.3 or 93.5 anywhere on the trip.

How can a station promote so heavily that they are at 100.3 FM when you can't even pick it up in downtown Miami????
 
^ There was some heavy Tropospheric (and even sporadic-E) goings-on the last few days....this may have been a freak situation.

Where I live (west Pembroke Pines), that lil 250 watter really carries....more than this DXer wants! Someone once asked me to try to monitor WCTH 100.3 Plantation Key, which I can get....but the time he asked me, I couldn't null WIOD to save my neck....

Last night the 100.3 Orlando came in here, but not strong enough to decode HD.

100.3's strength seems to be in Broward. It comes in very nicely from the FLL airport through about Sample Road, at least on I-95.

Exactly as my experience.
Also, don't know why, but they really drop off in/on Miami Beach.
 
I was driving around the Griffin Road area yesterday, and 100.3 came in nicely. My guess is that it doesn't do well in Miami because of the proximity of WCTH/Plantation Key on the same frequency. WIOD should just bill 100.3 as serving Broward.

We already have that in this market. Live local show, followed by synidcated shows the rest of the day. We don't need another one. We need something local and live across all day parts during the week. And real talent, not washed up hosts past their prime spewing hatred and political tomfoolery. But that cost money, so I don't see that happening. Recycling the same crap over and over is cheaper.

what they should do is dump the translators and put WIOD on 103.5, but they wont
