When I lived in Highland Heights, I could usually pick up WIOK of Falmouth. Before it moved to 107.5 in the early 1990s, WIOK was 95.3. WIOK was country for many years, but around 1990-91, it switched to AC as K-95.
Does anybody else remember this?
AC didn't last long at all on WIOK. It probably only lasted a few months. Although we could pick up this station, I don't know anyone who listened. I just happened to stumble on it a few times. I don't even know anyone who remembers K-95 now. Even people who remember other small stations don't remember K-95.
Why AC? There were so many other AC stations at the time. I had thought that signal would be a good place for a top 40 with a very broad playlist, since those were not only becoming rarer but could have actually made a real difference. But another AC? How much influence did WIOK even have as an AC? And K-95 was a bad choice for a station name, since a major country station in Lexington at the time was called K-93.
