WIOL Columbus Mixless...

Looks like Davis killed off its Hot AC format on 95.7 and is going with a simulcast of its Sports Radio 1580 WEAM station. The Mix's Twitter pages had this "Thanks for listening.. the New Mix 95-7 will be saying farewell to the Valley soon! The new format and air staff will debut soon! So listen!"

radio-info.com lists 95.7 WIOL as having a CP to downgrade service and move in closer to Columbus. Has that happened yet? The new signal barely covers downtown Columbus according to the map.

Wow...I was at 95.7 when it first lauched as Mix 96 back in the mid 90's...it was a great format then, but the signal had issues when the leaves were on the trees of clearing the mountain....it got a little better in the fall....but also attracted every lightening bolt when it showered! Strange I also was at the other station prior to it changing to WIOL when it was in Eufala...during the time Ken Woodfin was making the upgrades....soooo long ago....The best memory for Mix 96 was when we had a billboard with a dummy sitting on top and the Billboard said listen to Mix or i will jump!....someone actually shot an arrow through it! LOL!! the signal got into Columbus but couldn't penetrate into most buildings....your car stereo scan would catch it but the home stereos wouldn't....I miss that market so much though so much as changed since I was there....

The new 95.7 signal will cover Columbus better. The current 60 dBu doesn't even make it to most of Columbus. The new signal will, however, have a greatly reduced coverage area.

95.7 has to downgrade to move closer because of 95.3 (and for the 95.5 Atlanta move in).

Speaking of the old WIOL, Mix 93, I used to listen to that in Columbus back in the late 90s. The mornings at least sounded the same every day, like a recording played back at the same time.

Actually, that's supposed to be radio-locator.com, not radio-info.com.
