Legitimate Country artist like Lucinda Williams and Neko Case are on WXPN. The whole morning schtick that I gather from reading these posts iis a deliberate attempt to glorify dumb dutchie country bumpkin rednecks.

I was hired to do morning news and give the Murph and Casey show some credibility. I must say, Jerry Murphy is the most untalented, yet most egotistical disc jockey I have EVER worked with!
He never has an original thought, steals his material from anywhere he can get it, and thinks he's clever. Nothing he says on the air isn't pre-rehearsed. In fact, he used to try to tell me what to respond when he said something to me, which I wouldn't do. He does it to poor Casey all the time, so she acts as straight person and he can get a calculated laugh. I actually saw him say at a meeting that he is the best broadcaster ever to hit the airwaves in the Harrisburg-York-Lancaster market! And he said it with a perfectly straight face! He seriously believes that.
The station itself is a mess! During the short time I was there, the p.d. got fired (Dick Raymnd), they brought a new guy in who has since left, and they promoted a completely clueless bimbo named Lisa to general manager! even though she had only been there a few weeks as a salesperson and it was her first radio job! I've worked mostly in major markets (Philly and Miami), but I cut my teeth in small market radio and I had NEVER seen anything as bush-league as that operation. Finally, after about 4 months, I just left one day and said I wasn't coming back. Fortunately, I didn't need the job. But I had taken it thinking it would be fun to work at a smaller, more personal station than the big ones I had worked at. Boy, was I wrong! I still have nightmares! I understand the station is still just as screwed up. And I'm sure Murphy still sucks, but I can't stand country music, so I don't listen.
