I haven't really talked about how I really feel about WIP but I will now. WIP is one of the worst stations in Philly because of the hosts on the station and the way the format is. I don't understand why you have a guy-talk format with hosts not being nice to callers and abrasive, and they are not really good at what they do. I don't know why CBS don't realize that they have a poor sports station that skips a lot of play by play national sports and not like WFAN which is a standard of sports programming in the USA. Its sad that they are getting the ratings they are now but I hope they will go down in the gutter real soon. We should be complaining to CBS Radio about WIP but I doubt they don't want to hear what we have to say. I'm asking all posters to boycott WIP and support Sports Talk 950 WPEN-AM from now on because they are really good at what they do.

If you don't think that WFAN's hosts are abrasive to the callers... you've never listened regularly.

As for sports PBP... it can be expensive. WFAN has the luxury of the availability of two baseball teams, two football teams, two basketball teams, and three hockey teams to have contracts with. There's only four teams in Philly.

Besides, I think in a sports-centric town like Philly, people would rather call in to talk about Eagles football in August than listen to an out-of-town ball game.

The ONLY time WFAN plays national games is when they have time to fill.

I so agree. I can't believe a sports station would have opinionated hosts. I mean, everytime I'm in a bar or club and hear guys talking about sports, it's like, "by golly, Adam, those Eagles are looking bad this year," - "Yes, John, gee willikers, they need some help." - "Turn that frown upside down, everything will be OK!" Those WIP hosts suck at what they do. CBS should strictly tell their hosts to do gooder by not disagreeing with anyone.

It is such a poor sports station. I agree with you! I want more play by play!! I think they should carry every baseball game all season long, and not just MLB! I want minor league, unaffiliated baseball teams on WIP! I WANT THE ALASKA GOLDPANNERS ON WIP!!!!

WIP is out billing every other station in CBS's cluster in Philly... it's not goin' anywhere... trust me...

You are back to b*tching about the lack of play by play sports under the guise of complaining about WIP. New title, old topic. Did you think nobody would notice.

What do you mean "we?" This is your complaint. What you refuse to get is few - if any - people share it. You acknowledge that WIP "is getting ratings." Somebody is listening. Somebody likes what they do, even if you don't. They are getting ratings BECAUSE of guy talk. They tried straight sports talk and it didn't work.

I'm starting to think Shawn is right. With you it's all me-me-me. WIP should change because YOU don't like it. Everybody should call stations or the FCC because YOU'RE not happy. You are right; everybody else is wrong.

I listen to Mike and the Mad Dog on WFAN. I enjoy listening, but...well...nuff' said.

Julius, why are you so obsessed with getting national sports play by play in Philly? No one around here cares about teams in Florida or Missouri or something like that.
 
The most successful radio stations are ones that effectively plug into their market...so for Philadelphia, a radio station should strive to be a cheesesteak. WIP is that cheesesteak. WIP is one of the best radio stations I've ever heard...anywhere.
 
Fred/Mike: I have been right all these years. I'm glad you have finally admitted that you are beginning to think I am right. I just wish the moderators would realize that I've been right all this time...and put Julius to rest once and for all. I'm glad to also see that other contributors are publicly losing their patience with Julius on these silly topics.

Julius: WIP is doing just fine. You don't think so, just because they won't cater to your silly demands. Do what Fred/Mike says and STOP IT! Your programming demands won't happen. ESPN Radio is not going to 104.5 FM. WIP will not change the way they present their talk shows. Deal with it. Nobody else shares your opinons. You are the only one with this obsession with national play-by-play on local radio...and now how WIP is "one of the worst stations in Philly." You think every station in the market is the "worst station." Why do you be thinkin' dis? Why or why not?

Joey: Folks on this board have offered to start a collection drive to get Julius a Satellite radio, since he says he can't afford it on his own. He has refused to accept our offer...despite his obsession with national play-by-play. If we did get him an XM or Sirius radio, he wouldn't have anything to complain about on here.

Julius, how can a crappy radio station sell out a 20,000 seat arena for a wing eating contest every single year? WIP makes a lot of money for CBS. Sports fans in this market like the regional teams. WIP already is the flagship station for Flyers and Sixers, plus on the web stream they carry some of the Phantoms games. 1210 carries the Phillies, Temple sports. All the major colleges are covered on the dial in the area. Carrying other national teams will kill the ratings. Listeners get ticked off when the Flyers or Sixers games come on during football season. You are in the minority in this market. I agree with everyone else go buy a Sirius or XM unit.

I think we should start a Julius boycott and have a big rally in front of KYW starting at 5 minutes after the hour when KYW hits their legal id.

Incase anyone doesn't know, most of the Westwood One sports broadcasts are not on XM and Sirius including the NFL
 
I'll be incredibly honest here.

I am not an Eagles fan, although I do a killer Merrill Reece impression. And listening to football in FM Stereo is much, much, much better than listening in AM... so given the choice, I would rather have the Eagles broadcast on WYSP than WIP.

No Sirius got smart and picked up the local play by play guys for each team. Why would a fan of a team want to hear the national guys over the local guys?

I'm a fan of the Eagles, but If I want to hear a out of town NFL game, I rather listen to the WW1 broadcasts. They are really good.

Marv Albert and Boomer Esiason on the MNF radio coverage was anything but "generic". A very, very good mix.
 
I've stopped hoping for this. He's been saying the same things over and over for years. He won't get it. He doesn't want to get it.
