WIP-FM HD Subchannels

I know nobody cares about HD. But just wondering.

In January, will CBS put a feed of 610 WIP (carrying the CBS Sports Radio Network) on 94.1 WIP-FM HD subchannel? It would make sense. If so, what will they get rid of?

I would do this:
94.1 HD2 - 610 WIP
94.1 HD3 - WYSP automated format
94.1 HD4 - Phillies 24/7

98.1 HD2 - 70s format (or the non Christmas WOGL format during Christmas season)
98.1 HD3 - KYW
98.1 HD4 - WPHT

Didn't they also put that "HearPhilly" radio station on one of their HD subchannels?

"HearPhilly" was on the former WYSP years back, but didn't last. It'd be cool of them to do what they've done in other markets and carry feeds from their sports properties in other major markets. HD Radio is an incredible opportunity to get adventurous with the FM dial and garner interest, but most stations choose to air humdrum programming that doubles up on what listeners can already hear on the main feed. I mean, old Phillies games 24/7? Really? It's a shame companies are taking the opportunity as seriously as listeners on these boards who cry about not being able to tune into a station out of Tuscaloosa because of all the fuzzy hashhh maaaaan.

As if there aren't 3 devices in your home (maybe even in your pocket) that can pull up any station from around the world.

Notable exceptions- 102.9's "Deep Trax", 88.5's XPN2. My two cents- don't waste your HD feeds with what your main channel is already offering.

Well, after the live broadcast, they're only available on the HD4, not online, so at least that's unique, if niche, programming. Good for sports bars perhaps.

Good programming, available online as well. It's nice to be able to tune in WPEN-FM HD2 for uninterrupted Classical music 24-7.

If HD were to ever attract a mass audience (unlikely unless the reception problems can be fixed) there's still another issue. PDs are loathe to promote the aux channels on the main one in fear of audience fragmentation.

I like the fidelity of KYW on WIP-FM HD2, so adding an HD4 would slice that down a bit. I suppose it could be overcome with the right processing. Or they could just ditch the YSP jukebox which plays songs that can be heard several other places on the dial.

My OP was how I would reshuffle what they're currently offering to accomodate 610 WIP having different programming from 94.1 again. But what I'd really like to see is them kill the completely redundant music channels on WIP and especially WOGL. All 70s? Really? And that's different from the HD-1 format how?

What I'd do:
WIP HD2 - 610 WIP (CBS Sports Network + play by play overflow)
WIP HD3 - WFAN New York (Giants and Mets play by play included)
WIP HD4 - WJFK-FM Manassas Va / Washington DC (Nationals and Capitals play by play included)

WOGL HD2 - KYW
WOGL HD3 - WPHT

I might be open to adding music to WOGL HD4, but only during the time of the year (if any) that WOGL HD1 is airing Christmas music 24/7, in which case I'd put an automated version of the WOGL regular oldies format on HD4 like they're done the past few years. Or, if CBS decides to go with Christmas music on WOGL but not on WCBS-FM in New York, WCBS-FM on WOGL HD4 will be pretty neat for a month.
