wip vs wfan

If you haven't noticed "blueclaws1210", people on these Philly boards apparently don't think 'sportstalk' is a format. It very rarely, if ever, gets talked about on the boards. We talked about this a couple of weeks ago on our show, "The Radio Racket", the night we interviewed Jody Mac. We theorized that "radio enthusiasts & geeks" usually weren't jocks growing up, and hence, not interested in sports, let alone sportstalk. Who knows? It's the best theory we could come up with.

Personally, I love 'sportstalk'. As for WIP v. WFAN, I'm a much bigger fan of WIP. I like the mix of sports/guy talk, as opposed to the straight up numbers and stats that they talk on WFAN. I do like Joe Beningo though.

Another thing I don't like about WFAN, and I know I'm going to hear it from Julius, is the amount on National game broadcasts that they carry. Heck, I hate that WIP carries Monday Night Football, let alone the amount of games the FAN carries! I want to hear talk, not play-by-play.

Which of the two stations do you prefer, and why?

I never listen to WIP, but listen to WFAN every day. I catch Imus of course, then Mike and the Mad Dog.

Play by play is a very important part of a sports format. I don't know why would you say that there shouldn't by play by play on sports stations?

Sixers, Flyers and Friday night Phillies games. All play by play on WIP. Their sister stations carries the Phillies and the other one carries the Eagles. I think thats enough. We live a regional sports fan base.

I just happen to disagree with you Julius. Other than baseball, I don't really like play by play sports on the radio. If it's a game I care about, I'm going to be watching it on TV anyway.

Obsiously the Home Team's game are going to be on the air, as they should be. If you read my original post on this topic, I'm not a fan of the broadcast of national games, ie- MNF, Sunday night game of the week, etc.

correction: WIP no longer carries Friday Phillies games. All games are on 1210 AM this season.

Because nobody cares about the Phillies. Philly fans dont care what happens in other cities. They hate NY, LA, Boston and Dallas. WIP isnt just sports its guy talk. Thats why it works and it shows in the ratings. Again you have an ESPN affiliate thats says they are philly's real sports station and they have a crappy signal. I think you need to understand the philly fan which I know you dont.
