WIQR-AM 1410 For Sale?

Last night, I heard that the price of WIQR-AM 1410 in Prattville had come down from $1.2 million to $625,000. Anyone know anything?

Still overpriced. I doubt they are billing more than 15k a month, correct me if I am wrong. I wouldn't pay more than 8 to 10 times monthly billing plus an appropritate appraisal of equipment and building (if included). I doubt it could sell for more than 200k based on its signal, equipment and income potential.

They need some work before they can get that kind of a price for it. I was in Prattville Thursday night around 9:00. The station sounded like it had someone reading a book on it. It was so distorted I couldnt understand anything being said , an hour later another program, still distorted but not near as bad. You could understand what was being said. I have heard this kind of signal many times at night on this station. Surely someone in the Montgomery area could fix it. They must not have an engineer.

Hey, LaGrange, did you hear Doc Kirby on the show last weekend? The tribute to "Ye Olde Troy" continues this weekend with Johnny Long as a guest on the Saturday morning show...

Sorry I missed it. I was out of town at the in-law's place. I'll listen this week though. I'm a huge fan of Dr. Long's and I never miss the Community Band when they are in Opelika.

The studio doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. Got any picks of the transmitter?

I've been inside the WIQR studios once an met with the owner, Greg Meadows.

They're nice folks, him and his Secretary Susan. The signal has NEVER been quite right since they took a lightning hit several years ago.

By the way, last I knew from the broker who had it listed(but doesnt anymore)... is the sale did NOT include the transmitter site or the building where the studio sits on the corner, across from Walgreens and down the street from the Hospital.

Met the station folks a few years ago myself during a visit to work on another area facility, agreed they are super nice people. Clearly they deeply cared about the station and Prattville and I immediately liked them and the effort they were making at local programming.

As for the transmitter site... at the time of our visit the ancient tube-type transmitter was being kept on the air literally by a string... a pair of light bulbs was attached to a circuit inside the box, then were help up by a cord to the ceiling. Quite honestly we felt bad about taking any of their dollars to fix the beast knowing that the next lightning strike would just bring it back to smoking ruins with no one around to fix it.

I have no dog in this hunt, other than thinking that P'ville was a neat little town with a big potential tourist_draw dam and waterworks, ultra-friendly townsfolk and cats at the tower site. Studio space is no big deal, you can put that anywhere. But if the sale does not include the transmitter (or more importantly the land), you are talking moving and re-licensing a three-tower DA. Ugh... I recall the tower site on Reese Ferry Rd (Hwy 4) just up the hill from US31; it was being surrounded by some kind of landfill when we were there.

That would be County Road 4, and the city dump is well behind the land and the baseball complex is just next door.
