Wired 96.5 Philadelphia - Is It Now Officially a CHR/Pop Station

Wired 96.5 currently has Kelly Clarkson's "Because of You" as their most played song. Fallout Boy's "Sugar, we're Going Down" is still in its Top 10, Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc" is back in its Top 5, and Nickleback's "Photograph" is now Top 20. Wired still has in rotation Linkin Park's collaboration with Jay Z "Numb", which most of Rhythmics have stopped playing, but CHR/Pop radio is still airing. Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is also stil receiving light airplay on Wired.

Another Rhythmic that might possibly be evolving to CHR/Pop is KLUC 98.5 Las Vegas. KLUC gives substantial airplay to Kelly Clarkson and Green Day, and they're also playing Ashlee Simpson's "L.O.V.E" (the only Rhythmic playing her).

Wired 96.5 Philadelphia: A CHR/Pop? Not yet.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions about this one: WRDW just hired Kid Leo Baldwin from Rhythmic Top 40 KDDB/Honolulu as their new PD, so we'll have to see how this one plays out.

That one could happen, but the jury's out on this move because of the competition with KVEG, who might take advantage of the situation.

So what? Where is your confusion on this record? Kelly Clarkson CONSTANTLY researches well with Women, especially in the 18-24 demo - and just about as well in the W18-34 demo. This is Wired's target demo, so why ignore a record that is testing EXTREMELY well?

This record is "Rhythm-based" if that makes sense. It's not ROCK - it has Rhythm (like Justin Timberlake-Rock Your Body, for example). I'd play this on a Rhythmic as well.

Remember that stations (should) target a DEMO - not a chart.

JUST MY OPINION!

Gorillaz is a mix of rock & rhythm. Didn't chart on CHR/Rhythmic at all from what I know. Made it to Top 15 on CHR/Pop and lived at #1 for weeks on alternative.

But I do see why they can get away with playing it. It features De La Soul

Fall Out Boy & Nickelback don't fit Rhythmic CHR although WBBM-FM has been known to flirt with artists like Creed, Nickelback, Vanessa Carlton, Aerosmith, Celine Dion, Goo Goo Dolls, etc in the past.<P ID="signature">______________

Only a handful of Rhythmics are playing this song. It's consider too much like an Evanescence record for most Rhythmics, ie too Rockish. Of the handful of Rhythmics playing it, none are giving it nearly as many spins as Wired.

And yet most Rhythmics didn't play it, and even fewer are still playing it. Of only 5 Rhythmic stations that still have it in rotation only Wired is giving it so many spins. Of those 5 Rhythmics stations playing Gorillaz only one other station is playing Kelly Clarkson's "Because of You", WLTO Hot 102.5 Lexington. WLTO however is not playing Fallout Boy, Nickleback, nor Green Day. That's because Wired 96.5 is the only station on the Rhythmic panel to be playing "Sugar We're Going Down", and "Photograph".

100% Agree. The CHR/Rhythmic chart needs LESS stations like WPGC and MORE like WRDW.

I think both Las Vegas stations are trying to find their niche right now. Pop is a little bit more popular then it was a few years ago. Not to mention the rapidly growing population in the area, their research probably comes up with different demographics and results every time!
