Was 96.9 CHR around 1987, more mainstream than KMX? I was in Columbus at the time and remember their somewhat hokey top of the hour bed that kinda had a swishing sound, and the liner the jock would say at the top of the hour was something like "53 minutes of hits this hour ... the most music allowed by law".

Robert Leslie worked at WAGF years ago when he was in high school. A few years back I heard he and Marvin Edwards were doing a little talk radio out of Ozark. Any updates on that from anone in the know?

Unfortunately, Robert "Bob" Lesley passed away a couple of years ago. Marv, I believe, works for a company called Spectracare in Dothan. I hope I spelled he name of the business correctly. They were heard together on WRJM back in its talk days. Two class guys I had the pleasure of working with many times.

I had the opportunity to work with Bob Leslie (and you too, Tom O'B) at the original incarnation of WRJM (105.7/Troy) in 1985-1986. Super nice guy. Bob hosted a Sunday night show called "Sunday Swing" for awhile, with his co-host being a fellow who had been in a number of the "big bands" of the 1940's. They did the show live, and it would be tape-delayed on some satellite network, which got them phone calls from all over the country. I got to fill in for Bob one weekend on the show... had a GREAT time. Sorry to hear he's no longer with us.

Tom, don't know if you remember this, but you were on the air doing a special edition of "Hubcap Classics" on New Years Eve - December 31, 1985 - on WRJM, when we got word over the AP wire that Rick Nelson had been killed in a plane crash. I happened to be up at the station at the time, and we pulled out every Rick (Ricky) Nelson song we could find and started covering the story and playing his music. Anytime I've seen a biography on Rick or hear one of his songs, I'm reminded of that.

Hey Diamondtwo...

I worked at WRJM when Jack Mizell owned it. Did I work with you... Does Stevie Lange or Holly "hot lips" Hulahan sound familiar. I was there when it was known as WIGC....Welcome into God's Country.

Holly, I remember you. I was there in the "Love Songs" days with Bill (Morgan) Sappenfield in mornings, you in middays. I started out 7-midnight there, then moved to afternoons when Mike Lewis graduated from Troy State and left to work at WTVY-TV. I was there from October 1985-August 1986, and left WRJM for afternoons at WPAP in Panama City.

I'll bet most of you don't know the name Douglas Edwards? Did you know that he worked at WAGF once? Did you know that Hank Williams used to walk down to the WAGF studios from the old City Opry House and sing live in the studio? Most with that knowledge are dead now. WAGF old studios over the barber shop are gone too! There were some really good old times and days back in the 60's!

Larry James turned me on to this site. I'm one of those "Where are they now" guys. I was "Steve Taylor" at WDIG 1970-75, as well as Program Director there 1973-75 before moving on to Florida radio in Orlando, then Fort Myers. After winning local and regional ADDY Awards there, I decided to get off the air to focus on production while climbing the Major Market ladder first to Dayton, then Cleveland, then Pittsburgh, then Detroit, followed by Chicagoland, and finally to St. Louis, where I'm currently Creative Services Director at KTRS, home of the St. Lous Cardinals.

Others on the staff at WDIG while I was there, besides Larry James, were John Webb, Don Hart, Buddy Scott, Bob Tracy, Jerry Chandler, Al "Howard's Grandburgers" Bartholomew Ferguson's "Heavy Incorporated" all night progressive rock segment......tha's all I remember at this moment off the top of my once hairy head! But there were a lot more contributors to a very creative time in radio.

I have hours and hours of airchecks of WDIG that are still very much fun to listen to.....a time capsule of what once was a very interesting time period in our history.

Steve Wein
wow - look what i found - i used to listen to you on WDIG one the WDIG 'GOOD Guys'
