The supplier from whom I normally get spools of wire and various computer components just jacked up their prices. Needless to say, they're off my christmas card list.

So now I'm looking for a new home. I need spools of Cat-5e, 2 conductor + shield, and ethernet patchbays. Any suggestions?<P ID="signature">______________

They are near Chicago somewhere. Haven't bought much, mostly Belden stuff that's hard to find from my usual suppliers, but I did get a 1,000 ft. spool of Cat-5 wire for abt $50. However, I used the wire for a new telephone system, not data. Looking for the twist to beat down the RF at our combined (B-1 FM) site.

Deliver has been pretty good, within expected time limits for UPS ground, but we're not that far from Chicago.

These lines would carry data...the telephone system is embedded within the network (VoIP) with an in-house software driven PBX. I just need 5e because critical nodes will be gigabit.<P ID="signature">______________

We get the bulk (read all) of our Cat5 & 6 from Famous Telephone Supply. Prices are pretty decent but they have always has even the most obscure wire that we have needed. Just a thought though, shouldn't you be using Cat6 if your going to run some gigabit stuff Sam?
We just ran a ton of Cat6 Plenum for our Scott Studios biuld out and OMG was it expensive, mainly do the fact we insisted on using plenum. But as I recall, regular Cat6 was very reasonable and not really much more than Cat5.

I use http://www.connexions-pw.com/ (in Dayton, OH) to get pre-made cables (they have these $5 VGA patch cables that are better quality and have more shielding than a monitor's built in cable ... *drool*). They are pretty cheap on the pre-made side...I don't know how their bulk selection stacks up though.

Try Geeks.com. They have decent Cat 5E boxes for around $40.00 per thousand feet.

Yes...I'm recommending that the building move to asterisk. The phone bill I saw almost killed me. An array of Cisco phones (7960, 7940, 7910, etc), rewiring the building, getting a junky box to handle asterisk, and buying lunch for everyone in the building during the conversion process is less than the phone bill.<P ID="signature">______________
