WIRL/1290 - Peoria

Just switched from CWO to 50's/60's oldie format. They mention an FM frequency, 102.7, I believe simulcast, but that is a lowpower repeater, maybe they upgraded that.

Looks like the FM translator will be a nice complement, especially in the areas nulled-out by their night DA rig. Generally, though, WIRL's basic signal has always been hellacious. And 50's-60's Oldies isn't a terrible choice for 1290--they were the Top 40 gun 50+ years ago. Them and WPEO (believe it or not)...

Right, for a few years WIRL went against top 40 originator in Peoria, WPEO, a raid by WPEO of WIRL top dj Jack Etzel, resulted in a contract violation. That was after top dj at WPEO left for NYC. WIRL won battle with it's night license, in spite of north south directional, and eventually they went 24HR. The FM signal does not carry far last I was there. I think format will work as FM's there have only classic rock and beyond.

The fm translator will be fabulous. We just put one in Indianapolis at 250 watts around 828 feet and we get almost all eight counties in our metro. Sounds great.
