Wish List For New Year

What are some changes that you'd love to see happen come the new year?

Charleston Market
1. Which of the 3 country stations flip?
2. A return of The Box, and Breakfuss Klub could do mornings

Myrtle Beach Market
Don't see much changing, could see something happen to Rock 107.1 and Sunny 103.1, if I were Quatum I would go after 98.5 KISS FM and do a CHR/Rhythmic format but lean urban to protect Mix 97.7

In Greenville, format flips for 93.3 The Planet and Shine 96.7.

I would really like a decent rock station, and a classic hits station.

+1 particularly for a decent rock (preferably modern) station. Neither one of these stations is performing well so give 'em the boot!

Why would you change the only urban station?

Charleston Marketey yet.

A 2nd Urban would always be nice in Chuktown. Z93 is at an all time low without a local AM show, new midday jock and the dismissal of Baby Gurl Sha Sha. Haven't seen any press about Rickey Smiley doing mornings.

Didn't Quantum go after 98.5 KISS FM when they flipped to Urban AC and POWER 100.3 was Rhythmic? The Quantum Urban AC station was Q107.1??? Steve Harvey and Micheal Biasden.

Another local talk show in Charleston. Sad that a market like Charleston with 675,000 people can only support one local talk show any more. 1390 should go to a talk/sports format. You could keep Rome, have a local afternoon show replacing Finebaum, maybe move him to nights, have syndicated shows rest of day, and Fox Sports at night.

It makes no sense for them to stay as the fourth sports station with no local shows, no play-by-play other than national stuff, and barely any ratings.

Quantum did go after KISS by flipping 107.1 to Q 107.1 a Urban AC with Steve Harvey Mornings which didn't work out well. This was at about the same time Cumulus decided to take Hot 100 and flip them to a Rhythmic CHR as Power 100.3.

But this time I feel Quantum should take the approach and go Rhythmic/CHR on 107.1 but lean Urban. Reason is 98.5 KISS is the only game in town for Urban.

I am saying Quatum should flip a station to Rhythmic/CHR and compete with 98.5

I'd like to see someone/something push Fox 102 in Columbia.
I know classic rock is a format with a lot of questions these days, but 102 has been on autopilot for years.
They're not bad - but they could be so much better. Were they really all Mike Scott? (may he RIP)

I am usually loathe to presume to speak for the radio masses, but I think I'm on safe ground when I say most of us feel that the quality of radio was far better when there were two or three stations of each major format in each market, duking it out for shares. It kept eveyone sharp and looking for an edge.

As for Fox 102, Mike was a major part of the soul of the station, to be sure. But Weird Beard was, too. Isn't he still there in some capacity? For my money, Fox was far more personable and vital in the community's eye in the pre-John Boy & Billy days when Benji Norton was the PD and doing mornings. I don't discount JB&B's value, it's just that nothing beats having a local personality with his/her finger on the pulse of the listenership. So, whichever company takes up the Rock/Classic Rock mantle to take on Fox directly(if it ever happens), I hope they get jocks who are on the ground locally instead of the current typical formulaic canned voicetracks from another market..
