I wish that we could get some people to post thoughts about this station. Maybe give the GMR thread a rest and post in this thread for a few days.
I'm excited about this station. It will do really well...I know it! I just looked at a few sample hours and most of the songs are not spinning on other State College stations--not to mention, this will go over better in offices compared to the other area stations. If I was in State College, this would be my number 1 FM preset. It's awesome to hear Breathe's Hands to Heaven, Richard Marx, and Michael McDonald. It seems that there are a lot of newer soft AC artist getting spins on this new station and not all that different from Fresh in NYC; although, I do see a few 70s tunes still in there.
Considering how good Lite's music mix sounded and the fact that this is programmed by the same individual, I think it will be the best sounding music mix in State College. I can't wait to hear it for myself in a few weeks. Hopefully they will get a web presence soon. Streaming might help increase the office listening.

It's good to see Forever offering something new to the region. However, I cannot listen to WWSH because I live in Erie.
I, too, would like to see a website and stream. If the station is streamed, I would likely listen to Wish because the local radio stations don't impress me.
Unfortunately, there is nothing on the internet about Wish 98.7 with the exception of what is posted here on Radio-Info.

"Wish" is WAY better than "lite," and it's the only music station in the area I can leave on for more than two consecutive songs. It's also the only music station in the region to which my spouse and I can agree to leave on and listen to. I've heard them in all dayparts and they're consistently good. We like the signature announcer, we even like the gravel-voiced weather report. And the liners are less stupid than most others. What a relief!
It took three days to hear a song repeated.

Uh, it's a Soft AC.
It's the fourth version of Lite under a different name, and back on 98.7 for the second time.
It's the seventh station/format on 98.7 in seven years. A format a year.
And it's another signal dedicated to the proposition that you don't need people to do radio.
Oh, and it's targeted at 50-year old women--and you guys are really excited about this? One of the basic problems with the whole format is that NOBODY gets excited about it.
Maybe you are all right and "Wish" will be the biggest thing to ever hit State College. But when you think about all the other options they could have chosen instead...
Hip-hop was a huge hit in State College under Dame--in fact Hot 107.9 was #1 before Forever bought it and killed it (and killed a great CHR station, Beaver 103, at the same time). Both got caught in their decade-long sales crisis, but the programming was great.
Indie Rock would be a big hit in SC. So would Triple A. And either one of those would do best with actual humans involved.
Or has radio now been reduced to buying a playlist, buying some liners, and letting Selector do the rest?

We all tend to display our personal preferences when we comment, good or bad, on a station or a format. I am as guilty of this as the next woman or man.
Rap and hip hop are the folk music of this era. The lyrics (when you can understand them) are from the same root as the political protest songs of the Woody Guthrie era, but expressed in modern form. They are reflections of what the artists think and feel. I don't like to listen to it, but understand that a lot of people do. And there certainly is a place for it where it's wanted, which may or may not be in this region.
Wish may be targeting women over 50. You say so and you may be right. But in so-targeting, it will also pick up a lot of extra ears along the way. It's not going to be the first choice of a lot of people. But it will be the second choice of people who tire of whatever it is they listen to most.
It's not a huge leap to go from Joe or Frog to something "a little different for a few hours." When the classical station gets too, well, classical, you may seek relief by tuning to Wish for awhile. When the oldies on WOWY wear you down a bit, a little bit of Wish will be where you go. When Rush is off for the day and you don't feel like listening to some second stringer, you may go to wish. The strategy, even if it's unintentional, is a potential winner in both the ratings and the advertising departments.
I see wish as a good solid number two or three in a year -- if they don't over-tinker with it -- which they probably will.
Lite 99 was obnoxious and repetitive. Its automated and semi-automated hosts (except for the woman in late mornings and sometimes the obvious amateur in PM drive) were un-listenable.
Wish is well done.

I don't think that you actually listened before you made that statement. I've listed some songs below. Maybe a 50-year old women would listen, but I know a lot of 25-year old women who love these songs.

1. It did. 105.9 The Buzz
2. It apparently didn't...they're now Joe FM, Happy Valley's Best New Country (not to be confused with "Hoppy Valley", mind you).
QWK Rock is about the closest thing...more Rock than Modern Rock. Not bad, though.

It's AC, leaning to the soft side. A little more current based than "Lite," but not significantly different.
Most importantly, the only commercials are the net spots from whichever network/syndicator is providing the format. No pesky spots or jocks. Plug-n-Play radio. No thought or work required.
But let's call if for what it really is. When you have 10 signals in one small town, it's what you do with the ones left over. Use them as weapons to go after the stations that CAN sell spots. In SC that would be Magnum and First Media. So they've aimed Frog I and Frog II at Magnum and Majic & Wish at First Media. Everyone but the FCC knows 2510 is just Forever's shell company, existing only to stash the leftovers and minimize competition. Well, the FCC must know, but obviously doesn't care.
It's all very understandable. Just maybe not one of broadcasting's shining moments, that's all.
They're all big boys. Millionaires, mostly. It's free-enterprise capitalism. If they can't take the heat they'll get out of the kitchen. But at least it sort of 'splains why 98.7 would rather be the 3rd AC in town instead of doing something different.
I'd still like to see an Indie Rocker or a Triple A. Even a Country Oldies station (a little Merle & George & Alabama would go down good after hearing Taylor Swift for the 300th time). Americana/bluegrass/country-rock? Nope. One more AC. Gotta get me one of them Sirius things.

The iPod Touch only works with Wi-Fi, but the iPhone works with Wi-Fi and AT&T's data network. Just plug the iPhone into the aux on your car stereo and listen to internet radio stations.
I don't know anyone who did this in Central PA, but I have friends in some larger markets that have tried it out and they have been impressed. It's only a matter of time before it catches on everywhere.
