Wishing for WHYY HD-2

Having been in the DC/ Balt area very frequently, I love their WYPR HD2's full time BBC service. I think WAMU also has BBC on HD 2.

To me, it is a total waste of bandwidth and money for a station like WHYY to be in HD and not utilize an HD2 (or more) service. Unless there are legal/licensing issues, I see no reason WHYY shouldn't put BBC or some other international news service on HD2, as it seems to be common for other NPR stations across the country to do so.

Oh well, one can dream.

WHYY used to have The WHYY Arts & Information Service on its HD 2. It appears that they now have something called WHYY Plus, which basically plays BBC World Service during the day and Classical 24 overnight. WHYY Plus streams.

WAMU HD 2 airs the Bluegrass Country format, which was previously a mainstay of the main signal's afternoons in the 80s and 90s.

Perhaps WHYY-FM is monetizing its HD bandwidth with data services rather than an HD 2.

WNPR 90.5 Meriden, CT, and other stations on Connecticut Public Radio's network have never done anything on HD-2 or higher either, just the mostly useless HD-only simulcast of the main signal. I believe WNPR also carries an SCA reading-for-the-blind audio service, but that's not audible on any widely available radio.

Do you mean their HD2 is on now?, because they turned it off over 6 years ago, and never put it back which is odd for their type of format agenda...

I'm not in the Philadelphia area to hear what's OTA, but my understanding from WHYY-FM's website is that WHYY Plus is only a stream.
