WIST changing???

Maybe Buck can now see his way clear (cough cough) to get the old call letters back and simulcast the oldies on TIX-FM. Buck could still do his weekend show featuring the jazz hits from 1920 to that vast audience. ;D

I agree with you, frequentmodulator. Oldies grew up on AM and I think WTIX-AM doing oldies, even a FM simulcast, would do a credible job and bring back the real sound the oldies lovers in N.O. grew up with. It would be a nice experiment and would certainly do no worse than WIST has done in the ratings. Plus the nostalgia value would draw quite a bit of widespread notice on WTIX-AM, the station that created Top 40 and introduced the world to Fats Domino.

Wayne, stranger things have happened... ya never know... ;)

No...it would need the consistant personality and sound elements of the original WTIX, not Zippo (is he still even around?) or even Scott Shannon on satellite. To succeed it would have to include a decent number of N.O. oldies, like Ernie K-Doe and Irma, plus the DJs would have to Talk the WTIX Talk and Walk the WTIX Walk. Satellite would be a waste of time. I'm guessing that if WTIX-AM just simulcast the voice-tracked offerings of WTIX-FM, with TIX-AM originals Hot Rod and Bobby Reno as they are now, I think combined the AM + FM could get a 4-5 after snuffing out Scott Shannon, which would be no problem. And simulcasting the FM would cost the AM nothing.

Time will tell. To succeed you can go back to the basics...especially with a legendary N.O. frequency like 690...use to your advantage what made a station great to begin with and what it will forever be indentified with in the minds of listeners.

690 AM in New Orleans will *always* be WTIX, the Mighty 690, the station the listeners grew up with. Not WIST.

They can't bring back the call letters. WTIX-AM 980 Gospel in High Point, NC

GHB seems to be a pretty well run company, running different formats in different markets depending on the needs and openings in those markets. Sports, even “turn key” syndicated doesn’t make a lot of sense up against WWL which is, in reality, a great sports station. WGSO left the business news format open, and business news was better for them than whatever they’re trying to do now. But, didn’t GHB begin in radio as a religious broadcaster? Now, that makes sense, I mean cents and dollars. That’s my guess.

Blair, you silly f*rt, he could bring WTIX back to 690 because he also owns the station in NC that he assigned WTIX to, as I understand it. And he doesn't have to pay a cent for the call letters that he apparently already owns. Maybe I'm wrong about this but that's how I heard about it.

Religious broadcasting would somewhat make sense on 690. Sports, heavens no. Talk, no. But God knows (no pun intended) there are enough Dollar For A Holler religious stations on AM. Simulcasting oldies would be a nice free trial for GHB. Or turning out the lights. There's about nothing left to choose from but those choices for AM, except Causeway and airport reports.

But we're all just speculating on the possibilities here. ;)

Not too familiar but would basically be a fee to flip the callsigns to the FCC that's it as Bob said correctly, they own the stations in NC.

I don't think they will do oldies ( will praying to the rock gods Chuck Berry and Elvis help ???) unless they got into it with Mike Costello, as they dropped the calls supposedly so it wouldn't hurt him in advertising his station on FM in the market.

We've already got a sports station, dollar for hollars are too plentiful (and after moving back to the quarter, last thing you would need would be expensive digs for a low profit station)

I would have said classic country as a joke (considering it does pretty good elsewhere on AM) as not too much on the AM band other than ethnic programming I can think of that's hot on a AM property

I don't know anything more than anybody elese but, if they were going to simulcast with TIX-FM, wouldn't it have made sense for them to stay in the same building and not spend $1 Million to renovate the office building they just moved to in the French Quarter?

They're not going to throw that money down the drain after 3 months. There are fools running WIST locally, but I don't think there are fools running WIST corporately.

The cheapest option is Fox Sports with Kaare or Eric running a local program (one or the other - but not both unless the pair them up together). They've spent too much money to do Religion and they're not good locally at Brokered Time.

FOX Sports gives them a name to sell and, Lord knows, they need help selling. When you have one salesman on the street, along with your personalities, and your local "Manager" doesn't sell, you need help.

I don't know about the programming, but as far as WIST moving out of the WTIX building, maybe it was a health issue. Have you ever been in that building? I've been in it a couple of times and it should be condemned! It's crumbling, it's filthy, it stinks, it leaks, it probably contains asbestos, and it's like visiting inside an old tomb. Even the rats and roaches have moved out. That place is definitely a health hazard, so the Buckaroos wisely decided to leave before catching some disease, regardless of what they decide to broadcast.

Ah......Fortunate Son, don't forget: can't you still find the office listing on that board in the lobby, thats er...well....kinda outdated? I mean, you might not exactly find the person in that suite?
