WIST countdown

Just one more week and Country Legends will be signing off. Any guess on what will be the last song before they flip to "la raza"?

"Take this job and shove it" by Johnny Paycheck would be a good one. I sure wouldn't want to be the one answering the phones. They should have someone who only speaks Spanish, that would really enrage those calling to complain. If I was management, I would go ahead and sign them off, save the energy and the money, and maybe chase away a few of those who will complain. You might even say you're going "green" and doing it for the environment. LOL

I think the last song should be "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?" by George Jones. A legend singing about other legends and who is going to fill their shoes? Couldn't be more perfect.

I just can't imagine this station will be gone. Who's going to air all the community information about High Point? The commercials for local businesses?

Maybe it will be WMFR once again. From what I hear, outside of Max Meeks they forgot about community involvement. But someone's going to have to do all this.

Who indeed? Might be the salvation of WMFR if they take advantage of it. Hope they see the possibilities and ACT while they can! In the past, Tom Hamilton has only made it about the money. He needs to seize this opportunity or WMFR is sunk for good.

I'll take the morning show at MFR for 500 a week! Plus bennies

And just yesterday they kept running commercials for The Threshers' Reunion.

Plus there was something about the High Point Fourth celebration. And other community announcements about the city.

I kept getting taunted by the canned announcer saying NO ONE else does what they're doing. Hopefully, someone will pick up the WIST music collection and put it in the back of a pickup (the only way to do it) and transport it over to the WMFR studios. And get the same guy to re-record the station IDs with a new frequency. And hire Wes Jones to do mornings.

So I heard that the Norsan people including Norberto Sanchez (CEO) will be in town today and tomorrow, prior to the flip on Thursday. I heard that at the beginning they would simulcast their signal from Charlotte.

How 'bout Merle Haggard's "Are the Good Times Really Over for Good," a la WFMX?

;D THE OLD SAYING GOES.."IT AIN'T OVER 'TIL THE FAT LADY SINGS" THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MINUTE!

;D ;D Ah Goat, you need to brush up on your Spanish if you are going to work there.. Your translation is: He isn 't over until the fat lady sings.. Ya messed up on the subject!! APE!

To make for a smoother segue to Spanish, they could play all Johnny Rodriquez and Freddy Fender on Wednesday -- their last day.

Not bad! I still like "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" the best. It's going to be sad to see this little station go. They made a valiant effort against the big groups and a lot of people love that old country music and will miss it. :'( One more independent station bites the dust.
I'll listen all day tomorrow in their honor.

Well, it's done. The station flipped at 6pm today and the last song was . . . Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes! I'm psychic! It just seemed like the right song for the last to me. Good luck La Raza. No hard feelings, but sad, sad, sad. :'(

They probably had most of the Classic Country die hards listening in their coverage area. There aren't enough to live on, revenue wise.

They might have done better with a Jack-FM (Simon) approach to Country - 60s through currents, that fit.
Niche formats never win. That's why it's called Broadcasting
