From Taylor on radio-info:
In New Orleans, WIST (690) is moving to its new HQ in the French Quarter – and…
Isn’t it time for the RAB and NAB to put New Orleans back on the map for future conventions? But first, the story at GHB Broadcasting’s WIST. GM Dan Frazier tells me “there is no other place that a locally owned and operated station in New Orleans should be broadcasting from, than world-famous Decatur Street.” They’ve been working on this since just after Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 – and both the new 2nd and 3rd floor offices have balconies that look right onto Decatur. Which gets me thinking – when will the RAB or NAB come back to New Orleans? Both used to schedule conventions there like the Fall NAB Radio Show. The Radio Advertising Bureau was forced to cancel an annual Winter meeting because of the condition of the city. But now the core tourist areas and certainly the French Quarter are back in full swing. I asked Dan Frazier about that and he says “we’re giddy like little school children about the move of our own station to the Quarter - but the city itself is ready for a radio convention. The tourist angle is up and running full-steam, and even the streetcars are back.” Anybody listening? Even for a group managers meeting?
