WISX to Flip Again?

Another site behind a paywall announced a bunch of domain registrations recently that point to a possible upcoming format flip of Real 106.1 WISX. No word on a timeframe, or of course, if it's definitely happening. (Companies are known for registering lots of decoys.)

Who is ready for another shakeup in the market?

That would be a bit premature, no? What is the indication that the 106.1 involved is our 106.1?

Not trying to be vague, but also not trying to steal info from behind the paywall.

A couple of the domains specifically included "Philly" in the URL.

Is WISX so far in the crapper billing-wise that it's not worth letting this thing play out? I like the songs they play (I just wish they'd play them at their intended speed). I really, REALLY hope that whatever happens, they don't put Ryan Seacrest or Mario Lopez back on.

But I gotta say, I'm leaning toward the domains being a smokescreen. Real 106.1 has got to be making them more money than Radio 104.5. What if they're moving Real to 104.5 (which would be sad...but also kinda hilarious for obvious reasons) and putting on something to replace their ailing Alt station? But seriously folks, I can't imagine what else iHeart would be interested in putting on in Philly. I can't imagine what any company could put on in Philly. It feels like everyone's frozen in place and a few folks are waiting for the next big thing to come along.

Also: I never realized you had to pay over there to read the domain registration stories! What else does the money get ya?

Could it be an image change, not format?

Granted, "Real" is about as creative as "Philly's," "My," and "Mix," but I feel like it's too soon to change anything. But then again, TV series now get only 13 weeks to prove themselves (standards by which we never would have had shows like "Cheers") so who knows?

Didn't iHeart (then Clear Channel) drop Rumba 104.5 after less than a year? It's been a little over a year since Mix flipped to Real, so it wouldn't be the fastest format flip in Philly history. (IIRC, Now 97.5 lasted just barely over a year as well)

It was quick. And I think the Philly to My switch (or whatever order it was) was fairly fast, all things considered.

But if it’s a full on format switch, with that name...what fits?

Rumba 104.5 was an example of a true disaster, the likes of which I've rarely heard. I'm sure it was clear very early on (especially with PPM tech) that they'd made a huge error.

Now 97.5's ratings weren't quite as bad but it made more sense in the cluster to have another male-oriented station. That one stung because I loved their Christmas library and back then, I really didn't like the way B101 was doing it.

I wonder if 106.1 will be news/talk and take Rush and Hannity away from WPHT and air it on 106.1 FM, if they decide to do that? They could easily put WPHT out of business if they switch to talk

Oh dear lord, it was a joke. Remember how well IQ did at putting WPHT out of business? Yeah...didn’t happen.

It might be different with a bigger company that owns a bunch of news/talk stations. I don't think we will see a repeat of the failure of IQ.

There's gotta be some kind of treatment available for this...
