WISX

Does anyone think iheart is making a mistake with wisx. Considering the presence of WJBR and WBEB. The rating as throwbacks weren’t awful

No, I'm excited to see what they do with WISX. The breeze sounds like it could be good, softer ac or soft rock. We'll see.

WJBR is not an in-market signal and misses much of the geography that produces AC listening.

Everyone, including me, thought Entercom was making a mistake by blowing up the #1 country station in Seattle and replacing it with soft AC. They even hired Seattle resident Delilah to do afternoons. Now the station seems to be doing fine. If iHeart does the same in Philadelphia, they might bring Delilah back to the market. She used to be heard on B101. I'm sure some people have missed her, and would love to hear her again. Even though she doesn't afternoons for Entercom, her evening show is syndicated by iHeart. So you never know.

I'd be surprised if they didn't put Delilah on. Cheap is as cheap does. But of all the things I'm hoping for from 106.1, Delilah is certainly not one of them.

Casual question here. Soft A/C would give iHeart two stations in Philly, one at each end of the demo/age spectrum.

If they are having power-ratio problems with the younger leaning WRFF, where is the vision of having a format that will be far more older leaning and perhaps past it's 'sweet spot' demo prime?

The company must envision some satisfactory revenue someplace in this balance.

It was 27 years ago when I worked (P-T/fill in) at 101.1. I did some 17 shifts one January -- all dayparts, too. The station got a 7.1 share as 'Eazy 101'. I kiddingly asked the PD for a raise, telling him that I was responsible for that .1. At the time, WEAZ and 560 simulcast.

I'm not suggesting that WISX is going back to things like Bobby Vinton, The Carpenters, Kenny Rogers, et al. It just seems to me that such a direction toward the easier and older side of A/C -- even taking inflation and music changes over the years into account -- is curious.

I'm assuming they think advertisers will pay more for the older end of the AC group (which is being completely ignored in the market) than they were willing to pay for another Urban format (which the market has plenty of). The problem with Real 106.1 was probably much like the ongoing problem with Radio 104.5: Advertisers have many other stations/options to reach that segment of the audience.

Putting Delilah on, if they go that route, is about appealing to the target audience. I’d be inclined to do it if it were my business to run.

As much as I personally hate even the sound of the woman's voice, I'm sure you're right. WBEB probably dropped her because they were aiming younger. Delilah syndicates an all-Christmas version of her show as we all know. WISX may as well throw that on the air starting tonight as a way to position themselves where they want to be before they even launch The Breeze.

The show makes me want to gag, but it works for a portion of the target audience. Putting her on might not be bad for 106. At least it would give them....something....in the way of personality vs. what’s there now.

In addition to airing her nightly Christmas show, they'd probably do well to have her voice the Christmas imaging for the rest of the day as well. They have to do SOMETHING. As you know, my favorite format of all is Christmas and I haven't listened to them since Friday afternoon. It sounded just awful. I've been listening to B101 since 10am, which I'm sure a lot of 106.1's future target audience is doing as well. Pretty much the opposite of what WISX needed to happen...but they're offering nothing to make anyone consider tuning away from B101.

They can't put Delilah on because she is on WJBR, which is considered the Philadelphia market. Additionally, she is on WLEV and WFPG, and they would get mad if they're paying so much for her show only for it to appear on a competitor that reaches most of their markets.
John Tesh is available though

The last I saw, Delilah wasn’t on WLEV currently. But that aside, she was certainly on B 101 and WJBR/WLEV simultaneously in the past. With the three stations clustered right there, scanning through meant hearing the show in what felt like a hideously sappy and schmaltzy roadblock.

I don't agree. Wilmington is its own market. There's no reason (on a piece of paper) that Delilah couldn't be on both stations.
And, if I were Delilah's syndication and could be on only one of those signals, a Philly signal or a Wilmington one, I'd pull it off WJBR so fast it would make your head spin.

Wilmington is embedded in the Philadelphia market. 99.5 and 106.1 share the majority of their coverage areas. In fact, 106.1 actually goes further to the southwest due to Hot 99.5

It doesn’t matter. The show has aired previously in Philly and Wilmington.
