syndie sports talk. 1994 I think

Anyone knows what song Rumba 1200 debuted with? I see that the website has the Rumba logo but it's still not streaming.Suprisingly, Boston did not get a FM station yet Philly did?

Much like Rumba 104.5, it was a Frankie Ruiz song: instead of "Puerto Rico", however, it was "Mi Libertad".

Clear Channel only has two FMs in Boston, and both do extremely well in the ratings... unless they wanted to mess around with rimshots intended to serve adjacent markets, the 1200/1430 simulcast was their only choice if they wanted to go Spanish somewhere: it's unlike Philly where WSNI was one of the lowest rated full-market FMs.

I tried downloading that file again from 250free.com and it still didn't work, says it can't be found.
 
by the way C.C. may have saved "The Mic" for libtalk fans in Madison, but another CC outlet is dropping
prog talk/Air America...a trend. In Columbus OH, there will soon be Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage,
Jim Rome (I know, sports...), money guy Dave Ramsey, etc. on 1230. Unlike "the Mic" which got some fairly
good numbers, I read that WTPG 1230 did barely better than WXKS/WKOX...

On the other hand, I can't say I recall much ceremony when 'XKS switched from music to progtalk.
 
Yes, what happened with WXKS was Bill Wightman did one last show and then they went to a stunt
loop on a weekend (with WKOX also carrying it); songs like "Revolution" and "Rockin' in a Free World"
plus an excerpt from a Franken audiobook.

And, when they did that, they had only one each separate stereo channel of the music on each station. If you had two radios and you were in an area where you could get both stations, you could separate the radios across the room and hear the music in true stereo.

It was like those old experimental "stereo" broadcasts in the late 50's and early 60's that used two mono stations, one for each stereo channel, and two radios set apart.

I had mentioned Bill Wightman was the last DJ on WXKS before the stunting. Fybush's NERW mentions
his listeners bid goodbye to his show the Friday before (I think he later turned up on WBOQ). I also
remember reading that he had a regular listener dubbed "Mary Lasagna" (maybe she brought food
in or just called in a lot, etc...)
