With Local Public apps, stations aim to build loyalty with more streamers

In this case this is local public TV stations forming their own app with their own local brand to attract streamers. The Current article features how WETA-TV Washington is making their own app for TV's to attract Public TV Viewers in the Nation's Capital. Besides WETA-TV's WETA+ other Public Media Stations are soft Launching or considering their local streaming apps. I did not consider that local TV stations were considering this one given that Public TV Stations tend to focus on having their content through Youtube and the PBS app to adapt to newer tv's. Note KSPS Spokane and Nashville PBS have considered forming a local app but either declined or delayed it because of the CPB recission issue.

Up next

Six stations have soft launched their new streaming apps: WHYY in Philadelphia; Denver-based Rocky Mountain PBS; KPBS in San Diego; WHRO in Norfolk, Va.; PBS Charlotte in North Carolina; and KVIE in Sacramento, Calif.

Nashville PBS and WCTE in Cookeville, Tenn., are preparing to launch their apps. Buffalo Toronto Public Media signed on to the service in July and is in the early stages of app development.

Rocky Mountain PBS CEO Amanda Mountain said in an email that RMPBS+ is important for the station to attract and build loyalty with new viewers. “For our organization to be relevant with new and core audiences, we must undergo a digital transformation at scale with other colleagues around the system.”

I just checked and Rockey Mountain PBS now has a live stream of all 4 channels on there website, plus apps for Apple Tv, Roku, Amazon Fire and Samsung Tv.
