With the Clear Channel Budget Cuts coming tomorrow 01/20/09

it all started with technological advances. automation spelled doom for radio careers. overnites were first. why pay someone to do a show when hal can perform the same duties and save owners lots of money. ok, maybe not lots, but some money. wait a minute, we can save even more by punching in hal middays. then on music stations, let's voice track middays, afternoon drive and pick up some cheap sindicated show for evening entertainment. everybody saw where it was going. now, with the economy in the dumper and radio revenues in the sewer, it's the only option. besides, most music driven stations realized there was not much difference in ratings with hal. sure it's not as good, but we want to make money, not win peoples choice awards. who will go at clear channel? a lot of good people will have their lives changed today. for the most part you can blame it on hal.

Looks like "Hal" isn't as big of a part of this as you thought... 11 sales so far and only 1 on the programming side... .and it's not even noon... more to come!

Any big names out the door yet?

pgh radio person....have you checked out the cuts across the country? they include a lot of long time, popular on air folks and plenty of sales people. bigger markets are suffering more hits. the reason for the sales cuts is obvious. just ask anyone in any line of sales these days. times are tough. if your listening to radio these days, you're going to be bombarded by male enhancement, strip bar, debt relief, sham wow, psychic reading, psa's, and broadcast school commercials. good lord, choose the welding school instead. now, now, don't be so cynical............3 of my friends in so cal got shown the door. one a production guy. let's hope pittsburgh continues to buck the economic trend to some degree and the cuts require just a band aid, not stitches.
