Wither The Planet?

Now that Bob B is gone from Infinity San Diego and with Howard Stern's upcoming departure, will Infinity finally do something different with 103.7, which has languished in the ratings basement since its inception close to a decade ago?

Infinity must have made a profit from The Planet because presumably they are not dense enough to keep a money-losing format for this long (of course, they were not the owners for the first half The Planet's life).

Stern or not, The Planet has pretty much stayed in the 2's in 12+ numbers except for one book a year ago. But certainly Adam Carolla is not going to improve it and the numbers can only go down.

Having worked there, I've always wondered what invisible force protected the folks responsible for The Planet's low ratings, the music and programming "geniuses" who've kept their jobs through thick and thin (well actually it's only been thin). I suspect that a couple of them may be nervous about Bob B's departure and fear the appointment of a new GM who might start questioning the status quo.

Even the folks on the KYXY side of the hall might be a little nervous: the status quo has served them quite well for a decade or more and they are number one, but Bob B and Jeff and Jer could be a potent combo to upset the KYXY apple cart.

To Infinity and beyond!

Yeah, I can't see Sonny and Gene too very happy about what'll be traipsing into the booth across the hall every day! And poor Lee...

Maybe the The Planet is a write off for #1 KYXY
